Side by side images of Jenette Goldstein. On the left, wearing brownface as Vasquez in Aliens; On the right, with natural makeup in Terminator 2.
She's a lot less amusing when you realize that she's a white woman in brownface. (Jenette Goldstein)
I wonder how many #neurodivergent kids have been driven to near-suicide (or beyond) by parents and teachers telling them "You just need to apply yourself."
Certainly didn't make my childhood any happier.
The crucial thing to understand about Peter Thiel is that he adores "The Lord of the Rings" and no one in human history has ever so utterly completely missed all the salient points of what a book is about.
HuffPost: RFK Jr. rejected the findings of a recent Danish study that found no link between autism and Tylenol use during pregnancy.
Isn't it great a guy who snorted cocaine off of public toilet seats get to decide what causes Autism?

Article header from the atlantic, showing FBI Director Kash Patel in profile, half in shadow. Headline: "The FBI Director is MIA."
Apparently, Kash Patel is known for frequent drinking binges, which may have something to do with why he's released false information to the media about major operations on multiple occasions. He is, however, aggressive about hunting down Trump's "enemies" in the media.

My life.
People who say the dreaded R slur isn’t an actual slur and it was made up by 4chan need a serious reality check.
Throughout my childhood, I’ve been called, labeled, and even misdiagnosed by the R slur from professional doctors who had no experience working with autistic children. It’s not fun.
Tell me they're not trying to make this out as some kind of "scandal."
a world where sex is only okay if it can be turned into a punchline to punch down at somebody
If you haven't already, I strongly advise watching this new Extended version of Tank! the theme song from #CowboyBebop, with Yoko Kanno strutting her stuff with the original Seatbelts.
It's also on streaming audio, but it's just really fabulous to watch. www.youtube.com/watch?v=d75o...
I didn't know about "unc," but I certainly know about appropriation of AAVE into white pop culture. This one does seem particularly sad, transforming a term of affection into a snarky putdown. Thanks to @aftermath.site & @xoxogossipgita.bsky.social

I swear that a "whites only" trailer park without running water reads like a fucking satire of racist assholes. But no. It's real.

This Tax Day, every American should know:
Because of Trump, Amazon avoided paying over 90% of the taxes it owed.
That's $17.5 billion that should be going to health care, schools, child care, and more.
But instead, Jeff Bezos gets wealthier.
Congress needs to tax the rich.
The Nordic model operates under the premise that the government and politicians know what's best for sex workers, whether sex workers like it or not.
The Nordic model believes that silencing sex workers, surveilling sex workers and punishing sex workers will magically create safety.
The Nordic model doesn't work for one simple reason:
It doesn't trust sex workers. The premise of the Nordic model is that sex workers cannot be reliable narrators of their own lives.
It reinforces the idea that sex workers don't know what will keep them safe.
For $38 billion, I'll marry and divorce Jeff Bezos. Sure, I'll feel dirty about it afterward, but funding disabled rights, antiracism, and other causes will make me feel better.
A tweet from a MAGA influencer: “I miss the euphoric first few months of Trump's second term. The rapid-fire EOs dismantling woke orthodoxy. The sweet shrieking from the left. Elon and DOGE hacking off the tentacles of entrenched government waste. It felt like an autistic Camelot, and I was giddy. We were giddy.”
There it is: For a not insignificant number of people, it’s always only ever been about making people they find annoying angry. A whole movement built on resentment and vibes. Pathetic
bro. are you unwell
I mean, the rich think their fair share is zero, so that’s at least internally consistent.
While Graham Platner has made some attempts at making amends with the Jewish community in Maine, @juliametraux.bsky.social reports he has taken no such measures for using the word “retarded” regularly.

I have lived inside the culture of not being believed as a victim of sexual assault. Eric Swalwell should not just drop out of the governor’s race. He should be nowhere near public office. He should fucking resign from Congress. 👇🏼
men can’t understand what it’s like for women to see story after story after story of women being victims of sexual violence in a culture where it’s routine; what it’s like to live in a world that is fundamentally hostile to our existence. it’s a wonder we leave the fucking house, let alone thrive.
The truth hurts, yeah. But it was a great moment for the Democrats, because it allowed them to show that YES, we are different.
Or any standards, really.
Once you've started going, "Well, who HASN'T worn an SS tattoo for 20 years?" you really have given up on standards.
Consider whether you really want the Democratic Party to be like that. Or whether we think we can elect better people than the Republicans. 5/5
🏁
When you point out these things, people also go, "But, Trump wasn't held to that standard!"
No, he wasn't. And we're suffering for it. Refusing to hold their candidates to such a standard is why the GOP is now a haven for rapists and pedophiles. 4/5
It's that there is enough credible evidence from multiple women that we need to closely scrutinize him before allowing him to represent the People of California.
Or for that matter, letting him have anything more dangerous than a spork. 3/5
So far, there are a total of four different accusers, most of whom worked with Swalwell and were much younger than him.
The standard of proof here is not "Can he be convicted in a court of law?" 2/5
