No, It’s Not Back to Business as Usual Marco Rubio was more civil than J. D. Vance had been, but the message to longtime allies was the same.

No, it's not "back to business as usual."

The ‘world order’ didn’t collapse bc Russia invaded Ukraine. It collapsed because the free world chose not to stop them.
By refusing to use our wealth & power to defend even a European democracy, we showed dictators everywhere that aggression pays.
That was the death blow. We did this to ourselves.

What should academics be doing right now?

I have been writing up some thoughts on what the research says about effective action, and what universities specifically can do.

What’s your take - how do engineers reconcile their liberal views with working e.g. for xAI?

Don’t these applications usually contain quite a lot of sensitive data (e.g. addresses)? These are all sent to some VLM?

But is it really a strategy? Or is the entire foreign policy just based on ‘vibes’ from a person cult around delusional narcissistic guy who just incoherently rambles about whatever comes to his mind?

Calling hidden prompts for LLMs ‘bribery’ is overshoots the goal. If we want every paper to be “digestible” by an LLM, we “enable” LLM reviews. Then, there is an incentive to write (with meaningless changes or not) in a way that LLMs give favourable reviews to, instead of writing for humans.

8 months ago 3 0 1 0

Not sure if “bribing a reviewer” is the right comparison. Is it not literally more like asking for a good review?

But isn’t the real scientific misconduct reviewers who use LLMs for review? Of course hidden prompts in papers are questionable, but they don’t detract from the scientific results/progress like the opposing player (LLM reviews). Under normal circumstances, these prompts have no effect whatsoever

The return of Abrego-Garcia to face due process in the US, after Trump officials swore he would never ever return to the US, is a reminder that politics matters and pressure works.

Don’t give up. Don’t let the fascists relax.
