Just tested it. I was right about how they make them. They pull satellite data from something like cadmapper and 3d print it. I did it all the time for architectural models. It looks fine as long as you don't look at anything too closely, like when it's just context for the actual focus.

This is a guess, but if these are being made the way I think they are they probably don't look good any larger than this little desk toy. There are plenty of programs available to download data like this but it's all loose scans with a lot of inaccuracies and generic blocks as buildings.
