Demon's Tear, Jantakai Saga Book 1, by @resandersauthor.bsky.social

"A devilishly ambitious sweeping fantasy epic, part Wheel of Time, part Bernard Cornwell, whose numerous moving parts are kept from collapsing by Sanders’ secret weapon: he’s a seriously great storyteller."

I wrote a dungeon type scene like that in my last novel, and heavily edited it down. I couldn't sell tricks and traps to myself as anywhere plausible.

What if...
A dark power rose and there was no chosen one, no prophecy that predicated its defeat? There was no council of the wise to direct the heroes of the day?

What if there were just normal people, nobodies, desperate to survive the darkness that was steadily growing?

I'm trying two new things - 1. Writing a short novel, and 2. writing it quickly.
I've written half of it in just over a month, so great progress being made.
Also, genuinely think it's one of the best things I've written!
What's it about? ⬇️

I actually like both, in the right time and place. I love Cornwell's prose when it's like this - breathless and evocative.
But I also love Lee Child's snappy, no-frills approach.

But they are both very good at what they do - both could be done very badly.

Image is just text:
'We would have made better time if we had horses, but we had none, and the few we saw were old, sick and there were never enough for all our men so we walked, sleeping that night in in a deep combe bright with blossom and sifted with bluebells, and a nightingale sang us to sleep and the dawn chorus woke us and we walked on beneath the white mayflower, and that afternoon we came to the hills above the northern shore and we met folk who fled the coastal lands, bringing with them their families and livestock, and their presence told us we must soon see the Danes.'

Bernard Cornwell, The Last Kingdom.
