The main issue in the end is not the ease of use and access of these AI tools, but who has control over their production, and who sets the rules.

These moderation tools are still quite blurry, and just using generic words like "president" can in fact quickly produce similar results with Trump

while doing the exact same prompt for Donald Trump is quickly blocked.

Thirdly, Midjourney is an American company and so seems to be interested mainly in protecting itself from local political repercussions. Generating an image of a foreign president like Macron is easy

First, this new model does not seem to be a major advancement as the preceding ones were. There are some diminishing returns, and Midjourney has a bottleneck on their language comprehension. A new feature like the new draft mode is a failure for me, though maybe some people will find some use for it

Stop making sense - automated news collage

To try to make sense of the daily news I made a collage and poem randomizer, that extracts photos and headlines of the day, and freely remixes and associates them.

STOP MAKING SENSE
More vibe-coding with AI and @lovable.dev for a random news collage webapp.
Fetches and randomizes latest news and photos from NYT feed for a brain-damaged experience of what's happening in the world.

Now coding with AI.
I made a news collage randomizer webapp in about an hour.
It fetches RSS feeds and lets you randomize text & images to create absurd collages.
It feels like having a head injury & trying to make sense of what's happening right now in the world.
Which is my current state of mind.

We spent a fruitful week with the students working on all sorts of topics. Research on bias and stereotypes, documentary/fiction hybrids, textures and forms, prompts and their sexist creators, video mutations, AI mise en scènes of personal work, production dossiers, and ways to create anonymity.
