Fully agreed! I want to believe that this is a real step forward, and we're actively going to explore the trauma of Phyrexia through its survivors. This bit from the Rootha story has me by the throat because of the weird and honestly messed up implications of it.
Again, all just Vorthos wishlisting, but set after set has actively worked to set Jace in a distant or even adversarial position against former friends and allies. He's seemingly remade himself into the very thing that Bolas sought. He's made a multiverse in his image, so how else could it go?
We've seen glimmers of Ajani's, Chandra's, and Ral's altered fates, so what if that's the play? We spend a year exploring Jace's rewrite of the narrative of the multiverse, and see it strain and fracture under such unnatural control. Those that know him best rejecting it, and by extension him.
