ALERT: Mattel has been pushing game designers to submit pitches using their My Mattel Ideas portal, even if designers are in discussions with Mattel people directly.

The portal forces you to commit to a royalty cap of 1.5% plus a 10% deduction to net sales - effectively 1.35%.

I’m always a little disappointed when the clerk checks my receipt on my way out of Costco.

All I really want is for them to check every item and then praise me for being a good honest boy when they see I haven’t tried to steal anything.

Ooooh this is a bad take 😂 Nobody’s ever had better than a lukewarm time playing a game on TTS. Why invest time and money into making assets for a presentable TTS mod just so (a vanishingly small number of) people can play it and have a fraction of the fun that they would playing it at a table?

I picked up this trick from the team at Quantic Foundry and have used it every time I send out a web form for playtesters: use a text box every time you ask for pronouns/gender. The bad actors can’t help but out themselves.

“Yes/No” checkboxes are a very good plan B though 😂

I’ve talked to a lot of people this week that really need to hear this game-making advice:

If you don’t understand how a certain game has sold so well, it means that game (or product) has a lesson to teach you.

You won’t be able to learn that lesson unless you’re willing to reinvent what you know.
