When ‘Electability’ Is the Excuse We say “Black women are the backbone of the Democratic Party.” But there’s also an unspoken rule that comes with it. The praise is fine. The power is not.

“Because the moment a Black woman steps forward to lead, the tone changes…The backbone, it turns out, is expected to hold the weight. It is not expected to steer.”

The table is set for Rep Crockett. Subscribe on Substack to read the full article & pull up a seat.

The worst politicians in America are about to quote Martin Luther King Jr.

You can’t quote “I have a dream” on MLK Day then legislate against that dream every other day of the year.

Again, I’m going to keep banging the drum that the fact we are threatening the territorial sovereignty of our closest allies is not only a gross violation of our UN & NATO treaty obligations & poses a massive threat to national security & world order but also should immediately end this presidency.

Bland, easy to follow, for fans of everything: what has the Netflix algorithm done to our films? When the streaming giant began making films guided by data that aimed to please a vast audience, the results were often generic, forgettable, artless affairs. But is there a happy ending?

If anyone else is interested in how Netflix uses algorithms to dictate creative decisions (and what projects they pick up):

Talked to a Somali man today who said his mosque last night was surrounded by neighbors ready to protect them against ICE if needed. Made me feel proud to live in this city.

A video of ICE agents conducting door-to-door searches today in Minneapolis

The homeowner requests a warrant repeatedly, is told they don't require one, then is told they're getting it, then the agents storm in anyway

They also point a taser at her to try and disrupt filming

Watch this video. This kid is a genuine hero, who paid a horrific, unimaginable price for standing up for the most vulnerable people in our society.

Whatever depraved depths of brutality, cruelty or ugliness you believe ICE is capable of, I guarantee it's worse than you think.

Jury acquits D.C. 'sandwich guy' charged with chucking a sub at a federal agent Sean Dunn faced a single misdemeanor after federal grand jurors refused to indict him on the felony charge sought by prosecutors.

Of course they did, and as someone who's been in front of many juries as an attorney I'll tell you why: jurors hate government overreach more than anything, and this case was such a blindingly obvious instance of serious government overreach that everyone associated with it should probably be fired.
