Expel Israel's Ambassador Israel’s genocidal onslaught on Gaza has killed over 64,000 Palestinians, including 18,000 children. Their Ambassador should be expelled.

I signed this petition because Israel is a terror state.

That’s one reason I stopped paying for a TV Licence. It’s a choice we can all make if we want to stop promoting Reform (and genocide and transphobia and migrant hatred and …).

I have come to Hampton Court for the tulips and the other gardens and the palace are magnificent too.

Sign post on Thames Path showing directions and distances to Richmond and Kew.

Sign post on Thames Path showing directions and distances to Richmond and Kew.

Quite an attractive entry for #FingerpostFriday but one that hardly qualifies as on the section of Thames Path from Richmond Lock to Kew Green there are no opportunities to turn off so the direction signs are pointless, the distances are useful though.

Passing the buck again. Somehow it’s never Starmer’s fault.

Very true and the reason I stopped listening to it. Being open to other voices only goes so far.

CAAT - STOP THE “EXTREME PROTEST GROUP” DESIGNATION The “Extreme Protest Group” designation proposed in the Crime and Policing Bill targets activists who use direct action tactics, such as damaging the infrastructure of weapons companies. Although the amendment will not proscribe “EPGs” as terrorist organisations, it will make being a member of an “EPG”, organising with an “EPG”, promoting the actions of the

The Crime and Policing bill is trying to target activists who take direct action - I’ve emailed my MP to oppose this repression: caat.org.uk/take-action/...

Firstly this is a discussion on electoral systems, it started with a comment on PR.
Secondly I never said that elections will solve things so why pretend that I did?

1 week ago 0 0 0 0

Never said anything like that. Try harder.

Do you think that sort of deep insight that helps persuade people and win arguments?

1 week ago 0 0 1 0

You’re criticising the UK electoral system because Ukraine has postponed elections due to fighting a war?!

1 week ago 0 0 0 0

I have! It says nothing because there is nothing to say.

If you think I said anything like that then you need to work on your comprehension skills.

Please update Wikipedia to explain all that is going on today to change voting systems in USA. It has a section on this but nothing recent.

Agreed! I’m listening to the @99pi.org breakdown of The Constitution and it’s very enlightening on these topics.

Why do you think changing the electoral system will fix things? That sort of simplistic thinking gave us Brexit and Reform. Our electoral system does need improving, e.g. better registration and more convenient voting hours and locations, but moving from FPTP to some form of PR will do little.

1 week ago 0 0 1 0

No. Never said that.

1 week ago 0 0 0 0

Not at all. I’m merely trying to explain why PR is not the silver bullet too many people think it and why FTPT is a reasonable option.

1 week ago 0 0 3 0

That’s kind of where we are with Labour v Reform but that has nothing to do with electoral systems.

Democracy means everyone votes. And that’s accountability.

1 week ago 0 0 3 0

The option to make elected people accountable for things they have done is there at every election. It’s up to each voter to decide how much their record matters.

1 week ago 0 0 0 0

Ask them. I presume they think the best way to win is to criticise the opposition. It’s not a very positive tactic but they must think it works.

1 week ago 0 0 1 0

Not at all. We all get to vote to remove someone we don’t like but we don’t all get the outcome we want.

1 week ago 0 0 1 0

That’s precisely what democracy means. What’s your alternative?

1 week ago 1 0 2 0

FPTP never tried to be, or pretend to be, proportional so you cannot fault it for that. Labour Party won a 400 seat majority simply because they won 400 more seats than everyone else.

No, because it’s a democracy and it’s the people that decide, not one person. And you were given the choice of not voting for him even if you would prefer to vote for his party.

Accountability is always there at the next election.
