I built a simple CRM to fix that.

3 rules every freelancer should follow when onboarding a client:
1. Define the scope clearly
2. Set communication boundaries
3. Explain the project process
Most freelancer problems start before the work even begins.

Scope creep doesn’t start big.
It starts with:
“Can we quickly add this?”
“Just one more tweak.”
“Quick call?”
Repeat that enough times and suddenly the project doubles in size.
Freelancers — what’s the worst scope creep you’ve experienced?
Freelancing doesn’t have to feel chaotic.
Each week I share simple systems to help freelancers manage clients, prevent scope creep, and run projects more smoothly.

Scope creep slowly destroys freelance businesses.
Projects expand.
Deadlines slip.
Clients expect more for the same price.
I send one email each week with systems to prevent this.

Scope creep doesn’t start with a bad client.
It starts with unclear boundaries.
A “quick tweak.”
A “small extra.”
A “while you’re in there…”
Over time, that’s unpaid hours you’ll never invoice.
If you want a simple system to stop the leaks before they start, I put something together.

“Can we just quickly…”
is the most expensive sentence in freelancing.

The correct client onboarding flow:
1. Qualify the project
2. Define scope (in + out)
3. Set success criteria
4. Explain process & communication
5. Collect access/assets
6. Confirm kickoff
Most project issues come from skipping one of these steps.
Most client problems don’t start during the work.
They start during onboarding.
If expectations aren’t clear in week one,
you’ll be fixing misunderstandings for months.
“Can we just quickly…”
is the most expensive sentence in freelancing.

Freelancers:
If clients keep asking for “just one more thing,”
it’s not bad clients — it’s bad scope.
Scope creep is a systems problem.
Stop the Leak shows you how to lock scope, set boundaries, and stop unpaid work before projects start.

Most freelancers don’t realise how much money they lose to scope creep.
Unpaid revisions.
“Quick questions.”
Extra work that never gets billed.
I built Stop the Leak to help freelancers set clear boundaries, control scope, and get paid for the work they actually do.
