Oil industry leaders are putting economy, environment at risk, says former minister Catherine McKenna Oil and gas production only sector in Canada to increase greenhouse gas emissions in 2024, inventory shows

"(Here in Canada) oil and gas, which is largely foreign-owned, largely U.S.-owned, aren’t doing their part. (Instead)...increasing our emissions and ...demanding that Canadian taxpayers pay the bill for cleaning up the pollution they cause and building pipelines they won’t risk their own money on.”

👏 Canada 👏 Post 👏 is 👏 a 👏 public 👏 service 👏

Nothing proves how capitalism has brain rotted everyone than thinking the post office, hospitals, public transit, libraries, etc. need to turn a profit to be worthwhile.

Ossoff: "How does American politics really work? It's coin operated. Money goes in, favors come out. It's been running on secret money, corporate money, billionaire money ... all of this gave rise to a depraved president who exploits this rot to empower and enrich himself"

Timeline cleanse: A collage and stitch piece I completed this morning entitled “earthrise”. I made it with hand-painted and mono print papers. I was thinking of the shots of earth from behind the moon the Artemis crew brought back but the colours make me think it’s a view from Mars.

Norway and Qatar show Australia doesn’t have to give the gas industry a free pass For decades, Australia has tolerated a rapidly growing gas industry that pays little tax and royalties, employs few people, pushes up gas and electricity prices for Australian families and businesses,...

One example of a way the federal government could spend that money instead of a gas tax holiday:

Prime Minister Carney and NDP leader Avi Lewis sitting at a table having a meeting.

1/ Prime Minister @mark-carney.bsky.social and I had a warm and productive first conversation today.

I shared the NDP’s concerns about the cost-of-living crisis facing Canadians, including the creepy practice of surveillance pricing.

Elizabeth May: "I just read in The Guardian that the big oil and gas companies are making $30m [*an hour] because of the wars. So why are we deciding to get rid of the excise tax on gas instead of an excess profit tax on the companies that are raking in the dough due to war?"

I keep hearing people say
that this pandemic
broke our society,
that this pandemic
profoundly broke our society,
and while that may be
I cannot help but think
that what this pandemic
has truly done to our society
is reveal
just how profoundly broken
it already was.

Carney temporarily suspending federal fuel excise tax on gas, diesel and aviation fuel | CBC News A day after sweeping three byelections in Ontario and Quebec that gave him a majority in the House of Commons, Prime Minister Mark Carney says he is temporarily removing the federal excise tax on gas ...

It’s time for price caps on gas to stop oil companies from price-gouging Canadians — and a windfall profits tax on war-time oil revenues, so the government can invest that money in the public interest.

Striking that the Liberals and Conservatives offer the same response to pain at the pump: siphon money out of the public purse instead of Big Oil’s profits.

The big jump in 2022-2023 school year is in large part due to the mass infection of ALL our children with COVID, followed by frequent reinfection. Now, their immune systems are screwed and significant & growing % have Long COVID.

Superb 🧵 from here down unpacking the role of illness in driving growth of school absenteeism, and the role of COVID *infection* - not prevention 🤦‍♀️- in driving that illness.

Yup. It’s gonna be a bad year for ticks, I think. Our pup’s on the meds and we check her every night but we’ve found dead ticks on her bed every morning for a week. Little bastards.

Maybe we should start talking about how many men out of 3 will sexually assault someone instead of how many women out of 3 will be assaulted.

Let's shift the ownership.

Cutting the gas tax is just a subsidy to corporate profiteering unless we impose an excess profit tax.

For those wondering, I’d gone to bed an hour or so before the two men, who were busy getting drunk and woke up when my attacker crawled into bed and began groping me. Fortunately, he passed out before he did any physical damage but I was just lucky. He was 6’4”. I wouldn’t have stood a chance.
