Happy to share my new article on the transfer experience of Latinx/a/o students at private universities. A big thank you to my co-author and advisee Jordán Sandoval who helped shaped my thinking on place-consciousness. Here’s the link:

My work uplifts the strengths and contributions of immigrant-origin individuals. In this blog post, I describe how Latinx immigrant-origin tap leverage their identities to persist at community colleges and transfer to four-year institutions.

We’re now at a point where fact checking is seen as impinging on free speech…🫠

“The House passed a bill on Tuesday that would target undocumented immigrants charged with nonviolent crimes for deportation, an opening salvo from a Republican majority that has vowed to deliver on President-elect Donald J. Trump’s promised crackdown at the border.”

Congratulations!
Emilia Pérez…a movie about a Mexican trans cartel leader that has generated critical acclaim and GG wins and NOT ONE Mexican has set foot on that stage to accept an award 🥴
“70% of the illegal weapons seized from criminals in Mexico come from your country," President Claudia Sheinbaum told Trump this week.
I’m seeing a lot of… interesting things on Bluesky about immigration. If you’ve reported on this long enough, it can start to feel like Groundhog Day—like with each administration, we’re starting over from scratch.
So it’s going to be a WWE style spectacle in the Department of Education ::insert clown emoji here::
The State of Utah banned the words diversity, equity, and inclusion but not the work of representation, accessibility, and belonging. People need to stop acting like their hands are tied. Get a thesaurus. 🙄

I make a cameo in this new documentary by TNM & producer Kimberly Avalos, which explores the difficult decision faced by #DACA beneficiaries regarding whether to stay or leave. There are no straightforward choices, as they have been pushed into a set of options that are neither ideal nor desirable.
Because I'm somehow still seeing lots of discourse around the idea that trans people cost Democrats the election, here's @transscribe.bsky.social unpacking the inaccuracy of that claim. xtramagazine.com/power/trans-...
“ … Harris won the Latino male vote w/56% compared to 43% for Trump. ‘It’s categorically incorrect to say that the majority of Latino men voted for Trump,’ Matt Barreto, founder of BSP Strategies — one of the firms leading this electoral analysis — indicated …” americasvoice.org/press_releas...
“But to suggest we should yield even a little to Mr. Trump’s odious politics, to suggest we should compromise on the rights of trans people, for instance, and all of the other critical issues we care most about, is unacceptable. It is shameful and cowardly. We cannot abandon the most vulnerable...”
Dems already did this on immigration and got painted as open border communist globalists anyway. This simply does not work. Dems need to have a back bone and actually argue from their differences with conservatives rather than bending over and adopting conservative lite positions because of polls.
It’s mostly white people who talk about echo chambers. Maybe you need the internet to meet people with different ideas but the rest of us do not. We know what the “other side” thinks because we deal with it every day! Everywhere! We’re fine. Carry on. Happy Saturday!
