The Fightin’ Poets of Naropa
Look, accepting Red Barron would be supporting the imperialistic impulses of WWI Germany and I — Kidding, just going Bluesky on you. Again, the benefit of the Hot Deep Derby name is people having to look it up and then frantically closing their windows as horrified spouses linger.
Plus, they once had Satan on their side. Miroslav Satan
Buffalo—loudest game 1, round 1 crowd ever. Be great to see the Sabres make a run. Wild v Buffalo would be amazing.
Hmm, so you can sign a big name intl player and they’ll play … and contribute. Interesting …
What a few minutes from the Quakes! Werner with a goal and an assist to make it 2-0… then an own goal. SJ shredding a very stout defense in 5 minutes.
Tbf, I’m never shocked when a Neville side underperforms. And Antony took the Dieng “wait to shoot” approach to new lengths. “What if I never shoot and wait for the wind to blow it in?”
Tomas two much for Portland; leaves Timbers saying no mas.
Wood you believe it—Loons cut down Timbers!
Loons cut down Timbers, Por falls in St Paul. Job well done. These are matches you need to win—home to a struggling team. Count Chancalay with his best match as a Loon, maybe in MLS. Diaz & Pereyra with great passes to set the table for the goals. Neville still has a job—no one knows why. #MNUFC
Trapp, buddy, you trying to give Portland hope? Thats two counters you’ve created.
Padelford very grateful to see that flag raised. Loons need to not be casual in these final 10+. One goal and this gets frantic. #MNUFC
Um … Portlan defender just dry-humped Yeboah. Yeah, pretty sure that’s a foul even though Neville is losing it. 20+ left. #MNUFC
Pereyra … wow. In the wind, thought there was no chance he could hit that. The Count with just enough pace to catch up to his first touch to slot it over to Yeboah. Yeboah’s goals have now totaled 2.7 feet from goal. Another great in-season bit. Huge goal in what had been even match. #MNUFC
1-0. Very good start. Shakier later. Loons need to be more balanced. With Triantis and Duncan surging so far forward at every chance, more players need to be in defensive support. A lot of room available on counters. Both teams will feel goals can be had. Entertaining half. #MNUFC
Bassett should have finished that. Time to just get to half.
Dangerous stretch for the Loons. Portland’s best stretch this last 10. Very lucky that Antony just … didn’t shoot. Need some possession to settle this back down. Would like to see Triantis and Pereyra take some of those shots versus low % passes to Yeboah in the box. #MNUFC
Caicedo honors Jan Gregus. Rivals on the field but still showing respect to the opponent. Classy, Portland. There’s a lot of space in midfield for the Loons—feels like chances can be had. But Loons giveaways in their own end giving Portland life. Still very open through 31. #MNUFC
Btw, Diaz is a great celebrator
Count Chancalay with the terrible turnover on one end … BUT TOTALLY REDEEMS HIMSELF on the other. 1-0. And Diaz, yes that Diaz, with the great assist. Incredibly open game so far. #MNUFC
Huge miss by Yeboah. Great by Gene (!?), perfectly weighted by Pereyra, and the near post was left open. Just flubbed it. Like Sea, hope that miss doesn’t haunt. Best play by Gene as a Loon. #MNUFC
That wind could be a factor tonight. Can we just Pereyra take all corners? That’s about the 3rd or 4th that Count Chancalay has passed it to the first defender. Also, it is funny the Loons found the one keeper nearly as bad at distribution as the OG DSC. One of my fave bits of the season. #MNUFC
Great opening game. Really limited Dallas 5-5 and Wally made a few brilliant saves when the game was still in doubt. But remember, Dallas lost 5-1 in gm 1 last year, then beat the Avs in the series.
I assume we’re still pretending this James situation isn’t weird, yes? A lot of fanfare for a dude lower on the depth chart than Padelford.
Loons starting 11
Key match for the Loons. The road trip stabilized the team. But if they want to be more than just fighting for the 8/9, matches like these need to be 3 pts. Under Neville, Timbers are just such a random, unpredictable club. Not good, but you’re never quite sure how they’ll play. #MNUFC
Two massive saves by Wally to keep it 4-1. Wild lost it for about 5 min but survive to keep the 3 goal lead.
Wild need to just get out of these 3 min up 4-1.
The Wild in control. Dallas frustrated. Crowd groaning and booing. And Yurov takes a penalty when there was no advantage. Just gifting Stars a glimmer of hope.
Good first period by the Wild. Only gave Dallas a couple good looks. Not much open space for either team. Wolves played a good first quarter and then fell apart; hopefully, Wild will stay more composed.
