For some reason the link for the damage report cut itself off, so here's the proper link.

Additionally, here's the link to a lengthier write-up I did on this subject that isn't bound by any character limits. I had fun with this!

The official reports I used to find all this are linked below.

She would continue performing fire support duties off the Marianas until leaving to join Task Force 58 for the Battle of the Philippine Sea a few days later, after which she returned to Eniwetok.
She survived the war, despite being hit twice by kamikazes in 1945. She received nine battle stars.
Three men were killed and another fifteen wounded, three of whom severely. These three had to be transferred to New Mexico (not seen in the footage) while the three killed were buried at sea. The rest were not injured severely and remained aboard.
Despite the damage, Braine remained on station.
Shrapnel and blast damage caused a reduction in speed to thirty knots, and damage to three of the torpedoes meant that they had to be jettisoned as soon as the mount was unjammed. This is why her mount is trained to starboard.
In the video, she's seen transferring doctors from New Mexico.
The destroyer is USS Braine (DD-630), and the exact date is June 14th, 1944, probably a little before noon.
Braine had just been in a gunnery duel with shore batteries off Tinian, and had taken a 4.7-inch hit amidships that knocked out her aft torpedo mount and blew in her deckhouse.
Was sifting through the archives again today and came across some interesting footage of a destroyer coming alongside USS New Mexico off Tinian in June of 1944. She's obviously been damaged a bit, so I figured there's a story there and decided to dive into it a bit.
why what's up
Might do a little history write-up soon thanks to an interesting dive into the archives that I did today, so potentially stay tuned for that
What's poppin sphinx
Speaking of cool footage I found on the archives, here's some surprisingly high-quality footage of the Doolittle Raid, which happened 84 years ago today.
Good shots of Hornet launching the raiders, as well as her escorts demonstrating just how rough the waves were during the launch.
I think I'm going to start collecting footage to upload to YouTube with proper context/descriptions and stuff to make this footage a lot more accessible for people
Was reminded earlier today just how much incredible stuff is buried in the National Archives if just can just figure out how to navigate the damn website
Also Star Trek has some really fuckin cool ship designs which is always a major plus to me
I've been kind of wanting to get into Star Trek as of late, I've never really watched much of it at length and I'd like to give The Next Generation a full watch through
