The Vanska performances are a bit similar for me. A lot of folks seem to love them, but I'm just not convinced, even though Minnesota plays the shit out of them.
This whole cycle was just - fine for me? Like, it did the job, it was Mahler, some bright spots but not much in the way of fist pumps or shivers. It's gotten plenty of acclaim, but I don't connect.

Very late to this one but Sibelius 2 is my favourite symphony and there isn't one recording that quite captures its perfection - but Vanska with the Lahti SO gets close. Colin Davis and LSO another favourite.
Now going back to his Beethoven 7 which deserves more attention.
