Impressively fierce unicorn that apparently inhabits a part of Africa where people live in A+ tree houses. As imagined in the 1570s by Maerten de Vos, whose day has been today.

Beer and wife. #dailysketch #sketchbook

It feels illegal to have a beer at the zoo. Like I’m corrupting the elephants or something.

It’s been a minute where I’ve just allowed myself to doodle and draw for fun. Schools out and I’m trying to engage with my slightly artistic side again. #art #doodle #sketchbook #urbansketching #portrait #beer

I know designershumor on Instagram is by, and for, graphic designers, but it applies to UX, UI, and sound design equally.

forever sitting on the hood of a car

Aaaaaaand now I’m on Spotify, Apple Music and most other streaming services! #diymusic #mymusic #emo #alternative #indie

So I’m not a big fan of having to promote myself like this but I don’t really have a choice. My wife lost her job today and we’re in it deep. I know I don’t really have a lot of reach here but we’re desperate. My ep is like $4. It doesn’t sound like much but anything helps now. #bandcamp #mymusic

I recovered my old Bandcamp so I uploaded newest ep there. Check it out. #musicsky #diy #emo #midwestemo #pnwmusic

Hipsters are a vital part of the DIY ecosystem. Having someone ride or die your band at <100 monthly listeners and proclaim it the best shit ever when it’s underground/undiscovered helps so many groups get off the ground.

Doodles/Notes page for a class on Marine Invertebrate Systematics I took as an undergrad, and TAd as a grad student. Letter C - Cephalopoda
Page is scattered with sketches of 4 cephalopods (Nautilus inside the "C" on left page, squid left page lower, giant cuttlefish right page upper, octopus right page lower, along with several octopus arms as decoration)

Text:
(to left of "C") Cephalopoda beaks!
As if there is even a choice! C is for Cephalopoda
~800 extant species, ~1700 fossil cephalopods ranging back ~500mya!
Unlike fossil species found, todays cephalopods mostly have internal reduced shell (cuttlefish & squid) or no shell (octopus). Onl one group still has external shell - Nautiloids. External shell though is the ancestral.
The smallest known is pygmy octopus ~ 10mm The largest is the colossal squid ~18m+ long an 1800x size range!
(Callouts around squid drawing identify: 8arms, feeding tentacles)
Poison! (skull and crossbones icon) Several cephalopods have toxins that are used in defense and are toxic to humans! One of the most amazing things about cephalopods is their ability to nchange color and shape to aid hunting and evasion with up to 10 pigment cells per 1mm^2 - cells are controllable to change color and size of each cell.

(Top of right page above Title)
The Kraken was a mythical beast feared by sailors - giant squid?
From the Greek - cephale = head, pod, from pous = foot

Squid suckers have hard rings with teeth & hooks
Octo - 8 - arms are a definitive feature: octopus have 8 arms, squid and cuttles have 8 arms + 2 tentacles Nautiloids have upward of 90 tentacles

Vision in cephalopods is highly developed! from nautilus un-lensed pinhole camera like eye able to detect light - to the octopus with closed cornea and advanced vision that rivals vertebrates! The colossal squid eye is over 12" across and the cuttlefish has a "w" shaped pupil.

The next in Marine Invert Systematics class doodles/notes -> Cephalopoda! My fav marine invert group of all. Intelligence, camouflage, jet propulsion, nervous system, vision systems, mimicry, ink, size range - so much to LOVE, explore and learn. (e.g. bit.ly/3Xa7V1g ) 🧪🐡🐙🦑

I was a working artist with a gallery spot before covid destroyed all of it. It’s only recently that I’ve been able to find my stride.

I don’t miss insta at all. When I first started I could post anything and reach a hundred real people across the world. But before I left not even my friends would see my post and I would instantly get swarmed by bots.
