There is a bare minimum return the Eagles need in order to justify the competitive hit they’d take without Brown in 2026. It is a return where only a team’s best available draft pick is good enough.

The question they need to answer: why do we want to try to compete? Are we trying to be Alabama? Are we going after the same students? What do we gain by being able to beat Alabama at basketball? What’s the point of all of this?
Before 2021, Alabama won 25+ games four times in 40 years. They’ve now won 25+ games in 4 of 5 years. Between one and done, the transfer portal, and state school scale booster dollars, teams like Villanova can’t compete in the new labor market. It sucks, but they can’t. It’s self-evidential
Villanova’s challenge is much more existential than finding the right coach. The world done changed. They (and lots of other schools) need to identify their realistic place in that world in order to identify the coach who can lead them there
