I don't know what I was thinking with this piece. I created it on July 9, 2024, and I know I had fun, wanted to make something sexy, and that it represents West Virginia. Maybe I was thinking about sexual liberation and safe sex in the state when I created it? What text should be added?

This operates as a form of cultural absolution: instead of sacrificing bodies with a blade, they sacrifice integrity by using their pets to legitimize and justify harm, such as refusing to repair polluted water systems, giving corporations the green light to extract resources without...cont.

Their pets function as public relations tools, carefully crafted to project an image of compassion. But this compassion is a façade, masking unethical and destructive policies.

Elected officials often use their pets to absolve themselves of the harm they cause through a tactic known as “sacrificial framing.” They exploit the public’s affection for these animals and center their pets’ welfare to deflect attention from the human‑centered harms they are actively causing.

Our streams and lakes belong to all of us: to the fish, to the wildlife, and the very communities who live here.

Protecting water means protecting life itself.

But many of the same waters these golden beauties flow and swim in are still threatened by pollution that, just this year and in years past, our state and local government officials believed didn't deserve protection.

West Virginia discovered the golden rainbow trout in the 1950s -- a beautiful fish that came from a single female at a state hatchery.
Today, the state still celebrates and stocks them every year, as we know it to be the "West Virginia Gold Rush."

In times like this, it’s important to check in with ourselves and each other.
News comes at us quickly, and I know I can get stuck in a loop of constantly scanning for safety or patterns. It’s okay to step back and simply ask, “How are you holding up this week?”

When women and girls participate equally in water decision-making, services become more sustainable and effective.

Women must have and always have a pivotal role in shaping the future of water. Our water services need to be resilient against climate change and inclusive of everyone's and every BODY's needs.

Where access to safe drinking water and sanitation is denied, inequalities worsen, negatively impacting women and girls, especially right here in our home state. We need women and girls front and center in our solutions for water issues because water pollution is a Reproductive Justice issue.

With #WorldWaterDay26 on the 22nd, focusing on water and gender equality, it's clear that the global water crisis affects us all, but not equally.

I've been reflecting on Rev Brad Davis' posts, often stamped by the phrase "Water is Life." I've been considering how pollution, not personal identity or who one loves, is the real sin. Pollution is more damaging than individuals living and loving freely.

This campaign is about reclaiming that story — because gaming didn’t start without us, and it definitely doesn’t continue without us.
