Dozens of pinkish cones of lilac flowers blooming. A chain link fence is visible in front. A tall brick building is behind.
You can't smell the lilacs blooming from your car.
There are a handful of bushes we walk past for school stop off. It's nice to watch spring arrive.

Things bike helmets will protect you from:
-Head injuries from a slow speed fall
-Light rain
-Being blamed for not wearing a helmet if you get hit by someone driving 5,000 lbs of metal and glass
Things bike helmets won't protect you from:
-Everything else

Heavy rain is expected in the #Chicago area today. Reduce your use of water during and after the storm to help prevent flooding and protect water quality:
• Delay showers and baths
• Flush less frequently
• Wait to run the dishwasher or washing machine

April 2026: tiny lil actions to make Chicago a tiny lil bit better
Regional trains, Idaho stops, and so many Earth Day cleanups
What’s your personal weather threshold for biking? Is there a degree below/above which you won’t bike? Is rain a no-go? What MPH of wind makes you take the bus instead?
My readers know so much, and I want to crowd source and share that knowledge!

Cycling Linked to Lower Risk of Dementia, Study of Half a Million Finds
Getting from A to B on a bicycle more often could reduce risk of dementia, possibly by protecting a part of the brain tied to memory functions, new research finds.
“Compared with non-active travelers, the cyclists had a 19% lower risk of all-cause dementia, a 22% lower risk of Alzheimer's, a 40% lower risk of young-onset dementia (before the age of 65), & a 17% lower risk of late-onset dementia.”
