Huge thanks @samburrslt.bsky.social @samharding.bsky.social @drjoannecleland.bsky.social @drhelenslt.bsky.social and all made this happen. Roll on phase 2!
A Core Outcome Set is a standard set of outcomes that we can collect for all children in the UK with #SSD. This allows us to evaluate children's progress in a consistent way and then find out which interventions work best for which children.
Good news! The @misltoessd.bsky.social team have published a Core Outcome Set for children with #SSD attending Speech and Language Therapy in the UK (and hopefully beyond).
@nikkimcdonald.bsky.social shares her son's journey with speech and language therapy for his severe #SSD showing the value of evidence-based dosage to support Raising Awareness of Dosage in Speech Sound Disorder (RADiSSD). Find it here www.thespeechdoctorni.co.uk/radissd @csdrnetwork.bsky.social
Do subtypes actually exist in speech sound disorders? Errors: are they disorders or are they compensations? A dimensional framework. Rethink our foundational knowledge: New paper www.frontiersin.org/journals/hum... @tricmc.bsky.social @carolinebowen.bsky.social @thespeechprof.bsky.social
Children who develop resilience may see fewer adverse impacts of speech disorders. This article from #ASHASIG20 looks at a caregiver-led intervention that uses books to help children with speech sound disorders improve their resilience https://pubs.asha.org/doi/10.1044/2025_PERSP-25-00042 #SLPeeps

DOSAGE is the hot topic in intervention for children with Speech Sound Disorder. Here is a video explaining why it's so important to consider
Publication highlights of the paper "Speech and language classification in the human phenotype ontology (HPO)". The right hand side features a photo of children undergoing speech therapy.
Key findings: Speech & language difficulties often co-occur, but are distinct abilities. - Speech: perception & motor production of sounds - Language: understanding & producing messages (spoken/written) Current classification systems (e.g. HPO) has overlapping and inconsistent speech & language categories.
Key findings: Researchers proposed a simplified and revised classification framework that distinctly separates speech & language domains and their subtypes. This framework will improve: - Precision in diagnosis & phenotyping - Targeted therapies for neurogenetic communcation disorders - Data-driven discovery from medical records worldwide To read full paper, check out link in caption.
Paper is published in European Journal of Human Genetics. Author affiliations include Berlin Institute of Health, Murdoch Children's Research Institute, University of Melbourne, The Jackson Laboratory and University of Sheffield.
Prof Angela Morgan led team calling to better differentiate speech vs language in genetics.
Clearer terms = better diagnosis & care.

Good news- more #SSD research happening in the UK. This project will look at the feasibility of collecting a core outcomes set from children with speech sound disorders in Wales.
We are recruiting!! Join #MISLToe_SSD and be part of the new study in Wales. This is an exciting project which is now in phase 2 with phase 3 in the planning stages. If you know about speech sound disorder and know about research, please apply.

Every month since June 1998 Speechwoman has selected a speech-language pathology / speech and language therapy related site of the month. Sometimes it is not so much a site, as a research article or a page, blog entry or resource within a site that is worthwhile celebrating here. If they wish, awardees may display the Speechwoman logo on their winning site, post, page or resource (scroll down for two versions of the logo). Warm congratulations to all Speechwoman's winners, including those whose hard work has "gone" from the Internet! 2025 Sites of the Month May Open Access Cleland, J., Burr, S., Harding, S., Stringer, H., & Wren, Y.
