But that's not because of lack of money in the system. American productive output is very high, it's just that consumption is even higher and very unevenly distributed.

It was working for me earlier but it was down when I checked just now. Something is up.
A screenshot showing PubMed website cannot be reached.
PubMed has been down since yesterday.
It's the largest database of biomedical literature in the world with 37M citations.
If this is a result of Trump's NIH funding freeze, it's extremely bad news for scientific community not just in the US but across the world.
We created & validated text prompts for LLM screening in systematic reviews. High performing. Could filter out 65-95% prior to human review or replace 1 human. Reduces cost. Christian Cao=superstar @uoft.bsky.social @ucalgary.bsky.social #Cochrane #LLM #AI www.acpjournals.org/doi/10.7326/...

Academia had it coming because intellectuals are key opposing force to money and academia is an important centre of power. Intellectuals have been under attack for decades for this reason (evolution, climate science, vaccines etc). The war on woke is just another form of attack on intellectuals.
Writing services can be legitimate, but companies or individuals providing services should follow guidelines such as good publication practice: www.acpjournals.org/doi/full/10....
This is caused by the relentless pressure on academics to increase the volume of publications, which results in a firehose of mediocrity that's impossible to digest and critique. www.theatlantic.com/science/arch...
A screenshot of the reply by our system ORKG Ask. The text says: The research on the impact of diversity, equality, and inclusion (DEI) on research quality suggests that addressing DEI challenges can lead to the identification and explanation of mechanisms crucial for social sustainability and the decreasing of the gap between research and practice . A diverse and inclusive research community has been found to result in higher-quality publications . Recommendations for enhancing equality, diversity, inclusion, and transparency in the pre-award research environment, based on discussions from stakeholders. Reflections on how to approach research on inequalities and alternative ideas to contribute applicable knowledge for social sustainability. A study concluding that a more diverse group has an advantage in terms of higher-quality publications. Another study supporting the finding that a diverse group produces higher-quality publications.
We posed the question "How do #diversity, equality and inclusion impact the quality of #research?" to our search tool ORKG Ask. This is the summary derived from relevant publications on this topic ⬇️
"A diverse and inclusive research community has been found to result in higher-quality publications"

Great thread, which mirrors my own experience with these tools.

Hate that it has come to this, but it's time to consider PubMed vulnerable to enshittification. My latest post @plos.org discusses the lines we need to fight to hold – and alternatives we can rely on internationally:
