Iran fuel shock turns EV uptake into a matter of national security From UN leaders to former Australian Defence Force chiefs, a growing chorus of voices argues that dependence on fossil fuels is not just a climate issue, but a national security risk — exposing countr...

My latest on why renewables and EVs will help Australia (and the world) with energy independence and to avert the next energy crisis.

I went in without knowing anything about the show or the movie and really enjoyed it.

Oh no we started that process today with a chatbot! Tried to explain we’ve disconnected gas not that we’re moving. Fully prepared to end up with the electricity disconnected in some miscommunication

I bought another one for myself for Christmas too! A real big one, it’s such a beast I love it.

Great week to get the gas meter shut off 🥰 Feels good to finally be able to be all electric! (Still some final bench fittings incoming for the induction)

Australia’s most costly anti-climate policy hits taxpayers for $30m a day as calls mount to wind back fuel tax credits | Adam Morton The government will hand over $10.8bn this financial year under the scheme that makes it cheaper for miners and other industries to use diesel and petrol

Column today - the fuel tax credit scheme for miners, farmers, industry is one of the 20 biggest budget costs. It's also a fossil fuel subsidy. Why are multinationals still being refunded these huge sums?

I’m in Preston and the huge blast of hot winds at 4am woke me up. Was very eerie

There's going to be plenty of analysis of the lastest emissions projections published by the Australian government.

But will just say that is no surprise that setting a target doesn't mean much without the policies and measures to achieve it.

I think the attention has been on rise of criminal incidents and repeat offenders, so just looking at number of offenders misses some of that?

Yessss I am a huge fan of e-bikes and think there should be more subsidies for people to switch to them.

As a climate reporter in Australia, where 1-in-3 homes have rooftop solar, I can say people here love stories about saving money on solar, electrification, EVs and how it all helps them. Batteries are taking off here now and it’s the same narrative.

I was on a bike behind an electric bus at the lights recently and it was so nice to not cop a lungful of fumes as the bus took off.

No 🙃 Not to mention dealing with the crazy misinfo around EVs in Australia

Super ambitious but Norway went from about 14% in 2014 to 97% today... with incredibly supportive policies and subsidies. They also didn't have the range of EVs compared to the market today. It ~could~ happen if the govt goes all-in on supporting them.

When you take out land use, Australia's climate trajectory looks very different.

How the government's 2035 climate targets stack up, according to experts After much anticipation, Australia has its new climate targets. Now that the dice have fallen, we consult experts on their assessment of how these targets stack up with what’s at stake.

How do experts rate Australia’s targets? How we’re tracking… and why Aust can’t bank on land use to cut emissions to 2035. My piece with @climateanalytics.org @frankjotzo.bsky.social and Climateworks’ Anna Skarbek.

For all those folk in Vic, you might be interested to know that the wild winds we've had last few days has resulted in the lowest 24hr period of brown coal generation on record 🎉

For our house, induction is the last step and it's going to be a bit more expensive with new wiring and also much lower rebates, but worth it because now I'm spending less than $3 a month for gas and almost $30 on the connection.

7 months ago 1 0 1 0

I had the same reaction! Gas hot water switch was $1,200 and made a huge difference to our bills, switched an old gas wall heater and old split with 3 efficient splits and now use half the energy over winter. Rebates galore for each change.

China's green energy boom could spell the end of the fossil fuel age China has put its economic might behind renewable technologies in a desire to stop relying on imported fossil fuels.

Wrote last week about China's reasons for becoming the world's first electrostate (energy security, air pollution, economic boom, oh and climate) and how it's helping the whole world to kick fossil fuels: www.abc.net.au/news/2025-08...

The ABC sacked our colleague because of her political opinion and to appease a lobby group, the court found. And they spent more than $1 million on ridiculous defences including the she was never sacked and there is no such thing as a Lebanese race. Time for the ABC to rethink how it treats staff.

Such a warm autumn. Have noticed in Melbourne that the trees in my neighbourhood are only losing their leaves now.

It's tough to overstate just how shockingly unusual an article like this is. Despite the fact that this is the response of the vast, vast majority of neighbours for both wind and solar farms, they are mostly erased from existence in coverage of attitudes of neighbours to utility-scale renewables
