Artemis II landing and looking like three big Tunnocks tea cakes there
And just this week the excellent @samalvis.bsky.social and @sofiejenkinson.bsky.social published the latest National Renewal paper - the progressive case for acting now on climate impacts like flooding and extreme heat: www.ippr.org/articles/ada...
9. Lots more in the paper itself & in @sofiejenkinson.bsky.social work @roundourwayuk.bsky.social you can see what this looks like in practice - not least electrifying a full rugby stadium bridgendravens.co.uk/2025-2026-we...
Full paper is here ippr-org.files.svdcdn.com/production/D... @ippr.org
New paper from @sofiejenkinson.bsky.social & me on the political threat and opportunity of climate adaptation
Progressives have ignored the need to protect people from extreme weather - and that leaves an opening for the populist right. š§µ

Blobby socks
Saw someone wearing blobby socks on the tube yesterday. A sign from the universe.
haha thank you. itās been a weird couple of days.
haha you and me both my friend
But really do appreciate anyone who has actually taken the time to read it & engage w/ it in a real way. Itās just my point of view & I think we need to hear more than just a few narrow points of view about the country we live in& the people we are. Not just the posh, ācorrectā, āacceptedā version
Telling someone they arenāt serious - politically, about patriotism, about where they live - is a tried and tested way of discrediting and undermining what is being said. And it rarely levelled at the very people doing the damage we see.
3) because the content is about culture & where people find joy & laughter the big charge levelled is that it lacks seriousness. Humans contain multitudes & we need both and can be both. Thereās plenty of serious stuff in there - how ppl feel about their country, their place it in & others for one.
2) SSB is cringe - of course it is! Itās a deliberately overblown device to try&capture a bunch of nebulous stuff - if a corporate brand or MP was using it I would get how that is v jarring but as a person just making a pointā¦seems alright. But v happy to provide cool ppl w something to rail against
There have been a few common (non awful) reactions to Blobby, some of which have made me chuckle: 1) itās twee, which I explicitly talk about in the piece - I donāt think all āsoftā culture-y stuff is twee and my refs are grounded in the working class/lower middle class culture & place I grew up
Thank you, I really appreciate that and think thatās exactly it - the stuff that makes us feel like us and comfortable. Which is my biggest issue with the response - much of which is a desire to police what ārealā, āseriousā, āmeaningfulā culture & feelings about the country are (ie posh, rightwing)
I appreciate you actually engaging w it on a real level (though I never once mention TheBear) The piece was framed as silly but it is also serious - you can be both! Soft parts of culture matter in serious things. Also I donāt think joy & silliness are twee per se & do explicitly mention ātweenessā
itās v much just my POV about how I see the country & the culture I grew up with - ie what I think exists / not a piece intended for persuasion of any particular thing. It feels too often that only certain ppl get to describe things as they see it,& class comes into that (also The Bear is not in it)
aw thank you so much, Leo!
thank you, I really appreciate that. I wouldāve always appreciated it but especially so today after the pile on yesterday. I am glad I wrote it.

The abuse experienced by @jeevunsandher.bsky.social under the post about his piece, and Iām sure many others, is shocking and a reminder to reach out to, support and help protect people at this time, especially those w a public profile & politicians. We have to stand with ppl & for something better
The racists on X have found this piece, via a wonderful piece @jeevunsandher.bsky.social has written for @renewaljournal.bsky.social. Mostly I just feel sad for them that they see Britain as a cruel & horrible place with no joy but the level of hatred & abuse on X is awful

Cute little bunny cuddle toy which was lost on the tube
If anyone lost this cute little bunny while out and about in London yesterday, I handed it into TFL
"There's been this kind of narrative that you're either a denier or an activist, that's just not true."
"We should be worried about the public consensus. We need to see much more comms for the people in between."
