Mini-Budget: Willis finds $7.5 billion in savings The Government has found the money by stopping work underway, tax changes, and redirecting funds allocated to climate initiatives.

Pocketing $2b intended for climate action is not 'savings', it is stealing from our future. #nzpol

Anyone else get fucked up by/ stuck in a thought loop (for lack of better term) of "this is only happening because I'm remembering it, even though I haven't remembered it yet, I only know it's happening because I'll remember it happening" and so on? Please? Not just me?

Whose lives did Van Velden think were overvalued? You can bet it wasn’t hers. It was other peoples grandparents, the sick, disabled, the immunocompromised, & essential workers that I imagine she believes were dispensable. Such a callous disregard for people and now in charge of workplace safety.

Not sure that "wait until you've *really* got a reason to protest" is a great endorsement of what he's got planned.

One of the many reasons I bang on about language that stigmatizes PWUDs. It means people don't ask for help, even when desperately needed. This is what the "War on Drugs" has done to people:

"western appearance"
…..that's a hell of
an admission
5. Because of the western appearance of one of the three who were killed at the scene, the force decided to check the identity of the bodies, and thus it was understood that they were abductees who had apparently escaped from Hamas captivity.

Well I shall absolutely be giving them a bell tomorrow, see what I can do. If they're not responsive to the right thing, then perhaps we'll have to look at just how good the internet can be.. 😊🤭

Te Papa should remove English version of the Treaty of Waitangi - Māori legal expert Te Papa should listen to protesters and remove its large display of the English version of the Treaty of Waitangi, a Māori legal expert says.

A lot of protest happens these days without any serious or valid theory of change and I think everyone could take a lesson from Te Waka Hourua because how many people in the last few days have learned that the reo Māori Tiriti o Waitangi was the version that was discussed, agreed to and signed.

everyone whose unjust death galvanized some kind of movement HAD SOMETHING ELSE THEY WANTED TO DO WITH THEIR LIVES

martyr language frequently both dehumanizes the dead, AND lowkey absolves the actual murderer, by implying that the death was valuable or necessary

I saw an article refer to Emmett Till as a "civil rights icon" and I say this from the bottom of my heart:

I do not want to live in a world where a child can become a "civil rights icon" for the audacious act of dying by being Black in the wrong place. No child should have that opportunity.

This is a brilliant article. So much to read, reread, and reflect on. The arc of the moral universe feels far too long, but may it ever curve towards justice.

Kia ora whānau; there's an upcoming event called the South Zealandia Fantasy and Nerd Expo being held in Timaru. It's organised by a known Neo Nazi (Solomon Tor-Kilsen, a prominent member of the white supremacist group Action Zealandia).
Be careful out there, and share far and wide!

Congratulations to all the new Otago graduates, and especially to those who came out and marched for Palestine today, still in their regalia, when they could have been celebrating with friends and family.

Undies that read: Danger! Radiation area! Do not enter!
There's a nuclear hazard sign as well. I desperately want a pair.

Undies that read: Danger! Radiation area! Do not enter! There's a nuclear hazard sign as well. I desperately want a pair.

These anti-nuclear protest undies were made by Jockey under licence in New Zealand. They were sold through local department stores in the 1980s, when France was still testing nuclear weapons in nearby French Polynesia & Aotearoa had been declared nuclear free.
I really want a pair.
