The pussywillow seeds have erupted from their casings amid recent rain storms. Their down glistens under the overcast sky with the remaining beads of water, having been captured by the water resistant fibers. They seem to pop in contrast against the remnants of last year's foliage.
I clump of "old man's beard" has been growing on this fallen twig, likely for several years before the thin branch fell from its tree. The lichen has seemed to emit a glow when I've observed it in past years near springtime, this sample seems to do likewise when juxtaposed against a dark background.
This is the morning view of a creek is as I look out from an old railroad bridge, modified to accommodate walkers, in the direction of the sun. The light is filtered through an overcast sky, but the shape of the sun is clear. The waterflow curves in the foreground, its surface lightly rippled, as it passes several pilings that had once supported industrial surfaces in service of the nearby port. A few evergreen trees have survived here, along with a variety of wild grasses and low shrubs, visible on both banks.
The athletic complex where we parked is surrounded by this meadow, as well as an arboreal forest. Seen here are several varieties of wild grasses, growing in clumps alongside an irrigation ditch. In the background is a small section of the arboreal forest, and the low slope of a nearby hill, with the filtered light of the morning sun.
Walking with my wife at a nearby rail trail, a new discovery by my wife, we attempted to let the evidence of Spring help to restore some joy.
