If regulation on technology intended to reduce unethical use was actually pointless, big tech executives wouldn’t be spending massive amounts of time and energy trying to squash those regulations and the people who advocate for them.

I work in consumer drone tech, which has been pretty intensely regulated from the beginning because most people could immediately grasp the danger that unregulated and badly designed small drones could post to the public: consumer AI is no different.

I don't fuck Tories. My consent is contingent on someone not being a Tory, so I ask if they're a Tory beforehand. I don't just assume they're not a Tory, then sue them of sexual assault if I find out they're a Tory after the fact.

Far from my area of expertise but i did like the owen translations of du fu. The romance of the three kingdoms i just grabbed a translation off the shelf

Similar things have been helping me too.

When empires collapse, the people don’t just vanish. When systems crumble, the people adapt. Society is a shared agreement between people. If the agreement is broken beyond repair, we will make new ones.

We always have. We just need to support each other.

Almost all of the smartest liberal and left wing writers and reporters I know have basically been reduced to doing that work as a mostly-unpaid hobby in addition to their actual job (if they have a job).

Just a few rich Democrats could put their money where their mouth is and fix this.

Seems like a problem that most every smart liberal and left wing writer, researcher, analyst, and NGO worker I know is unemployed, grossly underpaid, or in a super unstable job, while a bunch of 20 year old Nazis with the talent and expertise of ass hair are getting paid $300K to post on Twitter.

"you can really simplify these things down incredibly, because as soon as you're reliant on it you've been compromised"

"yaaay! this is a normal response to being told you've been compromised"

"mhm!"

There are Democrats actively fighting for us. Not many. But they're there, they're trying damn hard, and they're doing good work.

when I got here in 2015, some millionaire took me to a pity coffee to try to figure out why I was struggling. Finally, he slammed down his latte and said:

“Oh! Now I know. You’re an independent thinker! You’re gonna have a real hard time here.”

cosign. i met James Dobson in person when i was a kid growing up in evangelical churches.

that rat bastard is part of why i was subjected to conversion “therapy” as a child. his soul was as rancid as his rightwing ideology.

rot in piss, you fascist fossil. the world is better without you in it.

honestly been getting weird reassurance from reading du fu and other ancient chinese poets and knowing people have faced the same struggle of caring deeply amidst a bumbling state

regularly seeing writers break news with exhaustively researched pieces which are then yoinked by legacy media outlets without attribution makes me angry

knowing many of those same writers are living hand-to-mouth is infuriating

I grasp what those responding with "well obviously capitalism always supports fascism" are trying to do, and also think "defeating capitalism forever" is going to be harder than they seem to think it will be

(also, the fact some read my posts as "I love capitalism, it's great" is bemusing)
