Last week we hosted a webinar on how Greenhouse Gas Removal policy fits into the UK’s net‑zero framework and carbon market. We would like to thank DESNZ speakers David Joffe and Felix Grey, and everyone who joined the session on Thursday. BIEE members can watch on‑demand: www.biee.org/meeting/ggrs

A HUGE, narrative-breaking moment for the UK car market
New EVs are now cheaper than petrol cars on average, says Autotrader
Last yr CCC said price parity was due by 2028 – and it's already here
And EVs are already MUCH cheaper to run than petrol
First power at Sofia wind farm!
That's now three of the four massive offshore wind farms at Dogger Bank generating electricity.

Our latest analysis shows that energy losses could be halved by 2050 in a Net Zero system.
Why? Because low-carbon technologies like EVs and heat pumps are more efficient, meaning they require less energy to meet the same level of demand. ⚡

Spurs fans at the moment
Though by far the majority of the cost of having Haaland is his wages, so looking at the transfer fee alone is a bit of a red herring
Happy Simon Evans day to all who celebrate 🎈

Britain needs to think beyond net zero and discuss what it does about tackling the "overshoot" of the world's 1.5C goal, says Jim Skea, chair of the IPCC

NEW Q&A: What UK’s record auction for offshore wind REALLY means for bills and clean power by 2030
In which Molly Lempriere and I dig into the details in search of nuanced answers, while knocking some of the most misleading commentary on the head

There does seem to be at least a causal mechanism: we keep a lot of bodies deeper, inside the box, rather than pressuring the shooters quickly. Not saying it’s all that, though - probably variance on top
Good set of results on offshore wind auction contracts – the DESNZ team should be praised for balancing the need to deliver a lot of new capacity with the need to keep prices down www.theguardian.com/environment/...
BREAKING: UK govt secures record 8.4GW of offshore wind at AR7 auction round, for average £91/MWh (England) / £89/MWh (Scotland), roughly a fifth below the price limit

1/ Some wild numbers have been used in the media this week for “the cost of net zero”.
Reports have said that net zero will “cost” £4.5 trillion, £7.6 trillion – the list goes on.
None of these are the cost of net zero – a quick explainer 🧵 on why
That’s all of them
