There are times when you must speak, not because you are going to change the opposing side, but because if you do not speak, they have changed you.

Watching the news out of the USA, I keep asking myself "what's the red line?"

Or is there no red line?

The phrase "high expectations" has come to be a point of sadness.

It is meant to refer to the teachers' belief that a student can always learn and grow to a high standard, and then support that growth.

It has come to mean teachers making exacting demands of students and blaming them for failure.

Fun update: hospital visit had to be postponed due to the single worst case of COVID I've had in the nearly-5 year since this all began.

People sometimes seem incredulous when I say I studied educational psychology. It's a weird response.

Seems I conflated the defeat of the misinformation bill with the social media ban.

Labor expended a huge amount of political capital and good will to force a bill that Murdoch wanted, and now have been handed a huge defeat - which means the next LNP govt will do it in an even worse way

So the social media ban was defeated but for the worst of all possible reasons.

Be interesting to see if Bluesky can make it work. Twitter was never able to be profitable the way they wanted, which is why they were willing to sell to Musk in the first place.

I haven't seen an ad on here yet.

Maybe I'm thinking of a different thing. I thought enshitification was the term to describe a platform sacrificing the quality of its product and user experience in pursuit of greater profits.

But what's it's plan for monetisation? That's the hinge upon which enshitification swings.
