Well, no one is innocent in college sports these days (except maybe the players who are rightly getting $$). It's a dumpster fire. That said, there was no need for Willard to trash the school and taint his best coaching effort if he was planning to leave anyway. Just dumb PR (said a PR guy).

I would have said that too until this week. It's one thing to leave (which it very much seems he's about to do). It's another to publicly burn down the building -- amid what should be the school's most joyous athletic moment in at least a decade -- on the way out. All that aside, enjoy the game!

Great stuff, David. That night was, insanely, among my most memorable as a two-decade sports reporter. One vivid memory was that all night, the arena DJ was playing the instrumental version of “Still D.R.E.” from the Chronic 2001 album, which I had never heard before. Absolute perfection.

I learned last time that the best thing about my team winning the Super Bowl is the NFL Films Mic'd Up full-game recap. If you're a Birds fan, I highly suggest you carve out 40 minutes, drop this on your big screen and take in every second of this masterpiece. Just amazing, amazing filmmaking.

I would absolutely watch a follow-up to Netflix’s “Quarterback” and “Receiver” shows called “Kicker.” What an insane, torturous, outsider-y profession.

I’ve watched/listened to a lot of football since Thursday and the Jason Bennetti/Ryan Leaf call of the Lions-Bears game on Sirius was by far the highest quality. Hat tip.
