Wait, wait that's barleycorns not apples.

I'm old enough to remember the Hymietown scandal.
Around 2015, tho, I decided "no, it really *IS* getting worse." And it gradually kept becoming more and more apparent to me that "the worsening" was accelerating until 2024 it seemed like HOLY FUCKING SHIT IT IS **SO MUCH WORSE** NOW. BTW, I'm a solid Xer pushing 50. Make of that what you will.2/2
I'm not commenting on whether it's right or wrong at all, but for me personally, I used to always ask myself "is it actually getting worse, or are we just more aware of it?" Cause social media's really, really good at making everything seem more worse than it really is, right? 1/2
It seems to be their established MO: dominance in the regular season, followed by total shite play when it really matters.
Croft isn’t your typical private school. It’s for-profit, fast-growing, with the vibe of an idealistic startup out to change the world. The board members are also all investors, and none of them have children at the school. Many parents only learned the school was for-profit after Given’s alleged misconduct.
Yeah here we go. Shirley Leung's report.

I saw in one Globe article that at least some parents had no idea it was a for-profit institution. They thought "the board" was like a nonprofit governance board; not the top investors looking to make money.
NASA is, I believe, the only federal government agency with not only a mandate for self promotion, but the legal authority to do so. Most are legally prohibited, like the NWS, from promoting themselves.
True, I shouldn't have said "public" school in this context. But even most private schools are *nonprofit*, which is really the point. A nonprofit would've been required to have a lot more disclosure about its board & its finances.
That's close to my point: should the parents have known it was for-profit? Or was that fact concealed from them precisely because it might've let the cat out of the bag?
Do you think he's gunning for Schumer in 2028?
For-profit education is an absolutely terrible idea for a college, full stop. But there are a handful of places that are more-or-less legit, and that's as kindly as I can put it. Most are ripoffs. But it's a *guaranteed* scam of some kind when it's K-12 education. Name one that's not. I'll wait.
Serious question: how on earth does a FOR-PROFIT institution get accreditation as a public school in this state?
I don't know if that's illegal, but it sure as shit never should've been allowed.
"Construction" the season and "actual road construction" are not necessarily the same thing, of course. ;-)
No no, we're in "ha ha suckers it's still winter" season. Construction isn't for an month.
Yes, if possible. It's where most of my professional experience is, after all. 😉
Unfortunately my broadcast engineering consulting business has not worked out as I hoped. Not enough new clients, and about lose two more due to circumstances beyond our control. Looking for FT work. Resume is on this page:

2020 from my research.
A bit too much is nowhere near enough when you've got the bourgeois bucks.
Of course it does, because Bob is kind of a doofus.
(I've seen others making this joke, and I am 100% here to hang that attack ad around Flanders' neck like an albatross)
Not a private plane?
Of course, Rhode Island's corruption is laughably small-time next to Texas. I have no idea what it took to get the Riverwalk built, but I imagine there was one rich dude who stabbed a lot of people in the back (probably not just metaphorically) to make it happen because HE liked the idea.
31 years, yes. But not 31 years *of effort*. More like 31 years of grifters with their hands out, making sure nothing happens until they get paid.
That said, perhaps an enclosed space with a lot of glass? Sort of a blend of the Riverwalk and the Minneapolis Skyway system? That could be pretty awesome and work well even in lousy New England weather! /fin
And I'm not sure you COULD replicate it as the San Antonio has to deal with very hot days (even with tree shade) but never very cold weather. Never snow & not much rain/humidity either. They can do outdoor dining, a key part of its success, for at least 80% of the year. Providence? Maybe 30%, tops.
The park along the Providence River, of course, is NOTHING like this. Much to its detriment. I'm sure local zoning is a big problem, as is the various owners of land along the river. It would take a concerted decade-long effort, and probably the city owning all the land, to replicate the Riverwalk.
