Since the general consensus is that canonizations are infallible (I’m not sure why, it seems really vulnerable to objections like this) I think they won’t do it. But afaik it’s never been officially defined that they are infallible.

If you say they’re infallible you have to end up limiting it somehow, like to only canonizations under the current formula, to avoid problems like the above. But that leads to absurdities like “It’s qualitatively more certain that Josemaria Escriva is a saint than that Francis of Assisi is”

There are saints we know for a fact never existed and they’re still in the Roman martyrology. Imo canonizations are not infallible.
