Exclusive | U.S. Plans to Use Tariff Negotiations to Isolate China Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent wants trading partners to limit China’s involvement in their economies in exchange for concessions on reciprocal tariffs.

The basic problem for this US strategy is that developing countries would mostly be quite happy to tariff, say Chinese steel. But block Chinese FDI? Nope. www.wsj.com/politics/pol...

The Economic Consequences of the Tariff War The economy was already stalling out before Liberation Day. A trade war on the entire world will only make everything worse.

Government subsidies for large manufacturing firms: Insights from the OECD MAGIC database Government subsidies are an increasingly central issue for global trade, yet their nature and implications for international trade are still insufficiently understood. Using novel data from the OECD MAnufacturing Groups and Industrial Corporations (MAGIC) database, this column reveals that subsidies are common among major global firms across 14 key industrial sectors but typically modest relative to firm revenue, with notable exceptions. China-based companies stand out for receiving significantly larger subsidies, especially in the form of below-market borrowings, and frequently expanding their share in global markets.
