"40% of deaths of learning disabled people were deemed to be avoidable."

This has been known for decades, while services are slashed.

Yet the priority for UK politicians is handing over £ millions to private tech firms.

You don't fund life by funding death. Welfare not warfare.
Survival, not slaughter.

Disability benefit cuts violate human rights even with concessions, MPs warned MPs are being urged to reject the government's disability benefit cuts ahead of a vote on Tuesday (1 July).

“Amnesty International UK called the revisions to the welfare bill “nothing more than a superficial attempt to get MPs to vote through this cruel and harmful legislation”

Shared on X, posting here too:-

One of the hardest and proudest things I’ve done to date and it’s only a preprint*. The product of working with incredible people with lived experience of harm in community mental health services.

*not been peer reviewed.

If the welfare changes do come in, I fear people will be 1. Forced to cause themselves serious harm / injury to be able to survive & score 4 PIP points (because it will be weighted towards physical disability) or 2. Taking their own lives. It will be catastrophic for people with a mental illness.

Agreed. It’s a terrible tactic. ‘I’m alright mate’ attitudes play right into their agenda.

The basic rate is way too low ffs. Conflating the need to survive (trying to get in to LCWRA because basic rate is too low) with disabled people too ill too work who are already in the LCWRA is F*cked. There are no savings to be made here - they need to increase the basic rate & LCWRA.

“Rise in people with mental illness being driven by real societal challenges and lack of available treatment” says RCPsych President RCPsych President Dr Lade Smith CBE responds to the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care's comments about the overdiagnosis of mental health conditions.

“The significant rise in the number of people being diagnosed with a mental illness in recent years has been driven by real issues that affect us all, such as increases in poverty, housing and food insecurity, as well as loneliness and isolation. ”

Another email sent to my MP about @wesstreeting.bsky.social’s conversation with Laura Kuenssberg. The health secretary is being poorly advised by anti-psychiatrists who peddle myths about diagnosis and the sick role.
