one of the angled benches you lean on
why do transit agencies buy/install these? like just instal benches
its probably cheaper. even if you hate homeless people(bad) you can still buy anti homeless benches (less bad than the lean benches)

we really gotta close 4th street bridge to cars. Stuck waymo was completely blocking the T during rush hour today causing a huge backup.
Ugh nevermind, Papan's AB 1557 has now been amended to reduce the speed cap to 16 mph for both Class 1 (pedal assist, currently 20 mph speed cap) & Class 2 (throttle assist, currently 20 mph cap) e-bikes.
Imagine if legislators cared this much about 4 mph speed differences for driver of 2 ton+ cars
In other words, AVs will bring about major congestion that governments can’t fix.
Happily, there is a solution: Road pricing
Managed lanes (like I-66 in NoVA) and congestion pricing (as in NYC) can force AV companies & customers to consider the slowdowns they impose on everyone else.

It's a beautiful day to build some benches!
yeahhh
The same bench, framed closer to the camera, with additional cracks visible on some of the slats
After a week in the rain and sun (worst possible conditions) we can see some checking (small cracks) on the plain sawn faces (zoom in). This is fine, as long as the wood doesn't eventually split.
a 4ft dudersadt bench made of a pale wood with a unsually shimmery grain pattern (eucalyptus globus). In the background: a similar dark brown bench (stained redwood), a cone, and some tools
Built a bench of out reclaimed eucalyptus wood milled by bayarearedwood.com - hard and heavy as hell (weighs more than an 8ft fir bench). Wet with no finish. Eucalyptus lumber gets a lot of hate - maybe undeserved? We will see how this bench ages
Any Berkeley / Oakland area artists interested in painting some benches? dm me.

A group shot of eighteen people smiling while sitting on three benches or standing behind them.
A photo of three identical wood benches posed in a row in front of an industrial type space.
A group of people working on constructing a bench together. The pieces and parts are laid out on a red rug. There are people talking in the background.
This year, in honor of Transit Equity Day and Rosa Parks, Transit Columbus and Strong Towns Columbus volunteers cleared bus stops and sidewalks around the city to provide dignity for riders. We built benches to increase accessibility and enable people to rest safely as they journey around Columbus.
Two people lean against large snow piles and smile at the camera. They are on a sidewalk that has been recently shoveled and one is holding a shovel.
Two people measure pieces of wood together on a table.
A lone wood bench sits amongst a cleared patch in a field of snow. There is a fence and a parking lot behind it.

In total, twenty-nine people worked together to shovel nine bus stops, and build three benches.
Waymo exec says remote assistance operators are in US and also in Philippines. Markey says that's unacceptable, a national & cyber security risk. And it takes jobs away from American drivers to outsource overseas. "Transatlantic backseat driver is downright dangerous in our country" Markey says.
if the bench is just a solid color, it’s far easier, cheaper, and quicker to buff the graffiti with amother coat of paint. If benches have art on them that needs to be protected, then that is where an anti graffiti coating make sense
Thank you to everyone who came out for the #AlexPretti memorial ride in Oakland today. It was a huge turnout, even more than shown here at Lake Merritt, as some people peeled off since the start at Rockridge BART. @bikeeastbay.bsky.social @ebbp.bsky.social
Your friendly reminder that you should NOT support Gavin for president, in no small part bc the $750M emergency *loan* he agreed to became $590M months later. Gavin doesn’t really care about transit, at best
The campaign to save Bay Area transit kicks off this Friday! Join events happening across the region as we start collecting the 200k signatures needed to get this initiative on the November ballot.

SFBABC just published a 40-pager on how we crank out 10 guerilla bus stop benches in a weekend. I’m proud to have helped write, edit, and photograph this alongside @carterlavin.bsky.social, @mingweisamuel.bsky.social, & others. Get the doc sfbabc.org/join or read my post:

Ah yes scrambling to comply after only TWELVE YEARS to come into compliance 😂
I've been feeling blue about the world, so to cheer me up, my friend and I did some DIY benching. There are new & improved community AC Transit bus benches at:
6 : Telegraph & Wesbter @ Whole Foods
6 : Telegraph & Woolsey @ Smokehouse
12 : MLK & University @ Trader Joes
27 : Ashby & Shattuck
Shame they didn’t build enough for it to be a graffiti canvas
"Why does Sonic need a car?" motherfucker why do YOU? You can run everywhere too if you want to but here you are. Maybe address north american urban design so we can get some 15 minute cities, and quality public transit options.
I don’t want to formulate words yet, but my friend Alice Wong, @sfdirewolf.bsky.social of the Disability Visibility Project, has passed.
Here are the words she left behind:

A bench created during a campaign event for Eric is in painter park near the skate park. Laura’s bike is leaning against it
Spotted my first @ehbforbet.bsky.social bench in the wild (at Painter Park).
And it’s in a spot that has been in dire need of public seating for a very long time.
Thank you, @locallhuman.bsky.social & @ehbforbet.bsky.social !
