All I wanted, after Endgame (whatever Phase that was), was for a movie version of Doom what was done right. I'm an unashamed, unrepentant Doom fanboy of long standing. And, somehow, they've made me utterly indifferent to it now.

To be clear the third McNee novel is actually called FATHER CONFESSOR. And I have no idea what THE GOOD DAUGHTER is supposed to be other than what someone with little imagination might guess a sequel to my debut would be called.

Hundreds of Fake Pro-Trump Avatars Emerge on Social Media

This strategy—using fake AI profiles to boost political causes—was tested during the 2022 recalls in San Francisco.
We called them the "Wencils" and they disappeared after being mapped and exposed. And now:

Apparently, have made unconscious decision over the last couple of weeks to read Ismail Kadare's oeuvre, though not in any kind of order. So far, not regretting decision, having started 4th book today.

I study racist politicians from the Jim Crow era and this is on par with anything that John Rankin, Theodore Bilbo, or Cotton Ed Smith ever said in public

I'm not saying Frank Miller didn't do some good stuff in various places, but I remember the 90s and venues like Wizard magazine treating Miller like he was some kind of genius and I just never got that take on his work.

Trump's trans healthcare ban is affecting Americans in Canada • Celeste Trianon U.S. international students studying at McGill now need to contend with the fact that if they are transgender, they can't get trans-specific healthcare on campus until they turn 19.

SCOOP: McGill University's on-campus doctors are now refusing to prescribe hormones to trans youth and adults under age 19... if they're U.S. citizens.

They claim liability issues, but this isn't the first time U.S. EOs have interfered with Canadian doctors.

"Your Account is Suspended" Message on X

The CEO of Palantir posted a fascist manifesto on X.

I pointed out that it was fascist—which resulted in a permanent suspension from X (my second time!).

So, when you hear the tweeters complaining that BlueSky is intolerant, remember why many of us came here in the first place.

Yes, and like you said, it means Texas and Florida may be more plausible than in other elections cycles. And it's in the most plausible races that I, personally, would like to see the Dems expend their time, energy, and money. (Possibly, I'm still annoyed that so much went to Harrison and McGrath.)

I believe that.

I just wonder if, without Roy Moore-level terrible candidates, a deeply unpopular Trump and (hopefully?) a great Dem campaign are enough to flip such a red state. I'd like to see it happen. I'm just skeptical.

I've given up trying to predict anything, so who knows, indeed. That said, Alabama in 2017 was more about Roy Moore, and how uniquely awful he was, than anything else. If the GOP had put up one of their standard terrible people as a candidate, I don't think Doug Jones would've won.

Just horrifying to watch once excellent universities voluntarily destroying themselves.

I've never heard that expression and don't know what, specifically, this is in reference to, yet I feel like this statement has good odds of being true.

Did we not have a referendum on this? Where we voted against permanent daylight Time?

At least we now know that referendums don't matter if the Premier wants to do it, so that bodes well for the referendums planned this fall.

No matter what you vote for, the Premier will do what she wants

Also, hoping the lady who says Obama is guilty of treason, the guy who thinks Trump is Jesus, the lady sleeping with her security detail and who drinks on the job, and the guy who harvests raccoon penises will vote the president mentally unfit for office doesn't seem like the soundest strategy.
