🚨RM21-14 is on the #FERC agenda for next Thursday. #FERC has the opportunity to lift the ill-conceived opt-out provision in O719 and fully unleash demand response resources across the MISO/SPP footprint by allowing aggregators to fully participate in the wholesale market. 🙏

In her testimony #FERC Chairwoman Swett said, several times, that a third of consumer bills come from rates overseen by FERC. Has anybody (can anybody) break this down with more granularity?

Lots of problems with the #NERC Reliability Report, but this is a doozy “…IBRs provide little or no frequency response capability…” Lots of data showing this is just flat wrong.

🚨The ban on aggregators of demand response participating in wholesale markets in Minnesota was reversed by the MN Court of Appeals. FERC could step in now and free the rest of MISO and SPP states by lifting the opt out in O719.

This is a big deal for PJM to be admitting what we have long suspected. Power demand forecasts have been badly inflated…tale as old as time…

What is going in Utah such that ALL their coal plants are so badly uneconomic this year?
🚨 Earthjustice, on behalf of NRDC, filed a joint Petition for Review with Sierra Club in the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals challenging FERC's approval of SPP's discriminatory capacity accreditation methodology.

The use of Section 2 of the Sherman Act would be a novel, but potentially effective, application of anti-trust law in the electric power market sector.
🚨 Pleased to have helped with this GREAT law review article published in the UCLA Journal of Environmental Law & Policy, which addresses the uneconomic self-commitment of coal powerplants in the electric power markets with a focus on antitrust implications. escholarship.org/uc/item/6329...
My understanding is that it is SERVM. But not confirmed. That model is used elsewhere for sure. Including SPP. My *guess* is it’s a unique MISO application.
🚨Pretty big news out of MISO this morning. A continuing LOLE error that has existed since 2017 has resulted in a "total financial impact based on net positions [of] approximately $280 million." In other words, load was over-charged.

This could have been stood up through FERC’s OPP. In fact, numerous groups encouraged this in their comments regarding the creation of that office. If this is so important, why didn’t he just do it? He had every opportunity as Chair…

It is not only a problem of delays related to turbine production, but there are additional delays layered on top of that, including labor shortages and specialized materials delays as well.

New data from @rockymtninst.bsky.social shows every U.S. state would have lost more money in 2024 if their coal plants had been self-committed 100% of the time. #EnergySky

With the Campbell 202c order, DOE is attempting to make RMR-like decisions that are unwarranted. DOE cites NERC’s summer assessment report as support, but even MISO, its market monitor, and at least one of its member states (Wisconsin PUC) think that the report lacks merit.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Energy Imperatives Summit, REALLY could work on increasing the diversity of its speakers…yikes…😬
Reports are out that Chairman Mark Christie will leave #FERC in July and Laura Swett will take his place, if confirmed.

🚨 #FERC REJECTS MISO's flawed ERAS proposal by a 2-1 vote. The Commission wasn't satisfied that the discriminatory proposal was justified and properly tailored. #EnergySky

People say we need less NEPA. I say hogwash; instead, maybe it’s time to consider expanding NEPA to #FERC’s administration of the Federal Power Act.
Yesterday, Earthjustice filed comments in FERC’s co-location docket (EL25-49).
The demand for co-location is largely driven by developers’ desire for speed to market, but speed to market should not, and cannot, result in sacrificing comprehensive system planning.
