She was in her 50s and was the sweetest, kindest person I ever knew. As they say, only the good die young.

Their friends and family--I never know how to comfort them, because there's simply no way to describe the pain of watching someone you love slowly decline and go far too young, the way my aunt did.

They've had time to reflect.

They've had time to think about what they could say that would at least recognize the humanity of their peers on the women's team.

They've decided that they're okay with it.

Fuck men's hockey. And not in that heated rivalry way.

I get that it was an exciting night and that their adrenaline was up. I get that they probably didn't think before they laughed.

I don't get how none of them, or any other men's hockey player, has come out with even the most tepid "yeah, that wasn't great."
