"We're going to redesign Grand Army Plaza. Tell me something we may not have noticed on first pass" vs "Should we redesign Grand Army Plaza? You tell us."

It's a subtle but key difference.

Marwan Barghouti is the most popular Palestinian alive and has expressed support for a partition along the pre June 1967 borders into a separate state.

Barghouti has been in Israeli jail for two decades and is routinely tortured and even threatened with murder by Israeli politicians and guards.

The text outlines a court order declaring that defendants lack the authority to unilaterally establish standards of care that supersede professionally recognized standards for gender-affirming care in the Plaintiff States. It permanently enjoins defendants and their agents, including the HHS-OIG, from enforcing the "Kennedy Declaration" against providers in those states. The document is dated April 18, 2026, and is signed by United States District Judge Mustafa T. Kasubhai.

Huge news: the court has entered final judgement in Oregon v Kennedy (HHS trans youth care ban) and has vacated the Kennedy declaration and permanently enjoined its enforcement to target gender clinics.

this morning, mamdani’s team got in touch with me to float a new tax proposal: if your net worth exceeds $5 million and you dress badly, you’ll be hit with a 10% annual levy for “visual pollution.” i would be in charge of deciding if the outfits are bad.

Back in February, @analiliafornj.bsky.social shook up the political world, winning the NJ-11 Special Primary Election by campaigning as a fearless champion for working families — something she’s always been. I loved knocking doors & rallying for her.

Tonight, she won a seat in Congress! (1/2)

A Judge's Illicit and Uncashable Check Was Supposed to Make the Case of the Missing $2 Million Go Away. It Didn't. "This information rattles me in my soul."

A perk of owning your workplace as a journalist is that, if you think it's interesting, you can write story after story about an insane legal tangle of alleged scammers, political machers, and conflicted judges, and there's no one to tell you to knock it off.

A Fraction of Rikers Detainees Vote. NYC Wants to Make it Easier. Lawmakers say absentee voting is failing in city jails.

Despite a push by advocates to boost voter participation last year, just 621 detainees on Rikers Island even requested ballots, records show.

Now, City Council lawmakers want to make it easier for people in custody to request absentee ballots and get information about candidates.

If Harvard is looking for professors who will provide "viewpoint diversity" in exchange for $10 million, I'll happily preach communism at Harvard Business School or teach courses on anarchy at the Law School.

Hell, throw in a 3BR2BA and I'll be the creationist in your Biology Department as well.

I understand the intuition that subjecting older teenagers to adult-level punishments will reduce crime, but this has been studied and THE OPPOSITE IS TRUE. Involving them in the adult system INCREASES RECIDIVISM. Pirro is taking a soft-on-crime position here.

Lots of great stuff in the first 100 days! Lots more that needs to happen on so many fronts, but it is so refreshing to have a mayoral administration unapologetically embracing a focus on sewer socialism and the public good.

"If you can't solve the smallest task in someone's life, why would they ever trust you to solve the biggest one?"

Mamdani's revival of early 20th century "sewer socialism" here is the inverse of Guiliani's "broken windows" approach.

Starting small to do big things, but this time, they're good.

The NYT, a paper devoted to spreading the propaganda of rich “centrists” and right wing Trump apologists, isn’t critiquing the wealthy or defending the needy; it’s just trying to stigmatize public services and evangelize for means testing to undermine a socialist mayor.

Just my opinion!

The solve for "Sometimes when a service like free childcare is available to all, marginalized communities get squeezed out," is "Address that racism."

It's not "Therefore waste incredible amounts of time and money trying to means test something that society should just make available to all.🤡"

We have a very simple solution to universal programs benefiting the wealthy. You claw back the money through taxes on the back end. Everyone has known this for 100 years, but people get to pretend they don’t when it’s convenient for their ideology.

The colonial lie at the heart of Africa’s homophobic 'culture war' The notion that queerness is "un-African" is one of Britain's most successful lies, and most enduring exports

From the archive: Across the global majority, politicians defend anti-LGBTQIA+ laws as protecting “traditional culture”.

But often, those laws aren’t tradition at all. They are colonial imports.
