...Regardless of what happens tonight, and whether or not the president causes more damage to the United States than he already has, you are complicit in the fallout from the president's maniacal threats of genocide if you do not publicly and forcefully speak against this."

Call your rep/senators, esp. if they're Republicans.
"I demand that you publicly and forcefully speak against the president's threats of genocide against the Iranian people. Not only is it morally reprehensible, but it does everlasting damage to America's negotiating power on the world stage...
Get this shitty excuse for a president out of the White House. We all deserve better.
We can all do our part to acknowledge that gasoline is not our friend, and that the fear, uncertainty and doubt that the oil & gas lobby spreads is meant to prevent us from moving onto a better thing.
It's past time to wean ourself off gasoline. That doesn't mean you need to personally put solar panels on your roof. There's lots of ways to be part of the solution as a citizen.
...Unlike gas, once we have them, solar panels and batteries work for decades. Even a shattering of the supply chain is a roadblock we have time to surmount—rather than a disruption in gas causing an instant crisis that makes all of us immediately pay more and many fear being left without.
...to gas stations to keep us on the treadmill of endlessly buying something and setting it on fire and buying it and setting it on fire and so on.
Solar and batteries can free us from that cycle. Like gas, getting them comes at a cost...
This fella perfectly illustrates that gasoline is a single-use, disposable item. You set it on fire once and it's gone, and before too long you need to buy more of it that's constantly needing to be extracted and shipped around the world (prompting war and death)...

Bikes are faster than walking, cheaper than driving, and more direct than transit. What’s not to like?
For new, take a look at the longtail Trek Fetch+2, on sale (likely clearance / discountinuing them) for $3k (half the MSRP). I know little of it; I just ordered the bakfiets Fetch+4 for a similarly steep sale.
Seems to point to that. I've taken the opportunity to grab one and will hope Trek can help with any needed replacement parts for a good stretch of time. Our local Trek shop seems helpful. I got 2x Rain Cover just in case of tears, etc.
Maybe like me they just now got a Fetch+4 due to the steep sales Trek has on them right now (at least in the U.S. but I think everywhere). At MSRP I would have bought an Urban Arrow instead, but after having a pretty good test ride on the Fetch+4 I couldn't turn it down with that discount price.
In other news: great winter day for a bike ride.

Two best bike songs, can't stop listening to both of them:
1. "Ride on My Bike" by Rosalie Cunningham.
2. "The Bike Song" by Mark Ronson.
Go listen to them and then come talk to me about them.

Cars depreciate, so keeping what you have and waiting to replace it as long as you're able is almost always the most affordable option.
If you want an electric car but this month isn't right for you, don't rush it. In a couple years there will likely be lots of used EVs for good prices—cars that people are getting leases on right now from manufacturers and dealers rushing to get their cars out the door while the tax credit's around.
If you need the car for road trips and decide you need faster charging on the road, there are faster-charging, more recent used EVs going for around $20K or less.
Lots of used electric cars are on sale for around $10K after the savings from the tax credit. Dealers usually advertise the price with the tax credit applied. We got our 2017 Bolt for less than that, and its battery is still under warranty for 5 more years.
If you can charge at work or at home—if there's an outlet where your car sits parked—then electric cars are better cars. They can accelerate faster and drive more smoothly, they need less maintenance, and they cost less to drive (on our home electric bill, we pay the equivalent of about $1/gallon).
If you're looking to buy a car, consider whether an electric one is right for you... this month especially. The tax credit for electric cars (new AND used) goes away at the end of this month. It's an instant-rebate tax credit, so you can save thousands upfront if you qualify, and most people do.
I'll be at South Bend First Fridays, downtown, with our Chevy Bolt tomorrow evening, part of an event where you can chat with folks about their experience with EVs. What they're like to drive, where/how to charge, what to look for, whatever you want to chat about. Come see me!
