Did I just argue with a joke? Part of a Bluesky educational series

According to the data
we are currently seeing
the lowest level
of daily COVID infections
that we have seen in years:
217,000 new daily infections,
and though I know
this is good news,
I can’t help but feel that
217,00 new daily infections
is still very bad news.
If he thought he could use our money to buy himself a private jet just imagine what's on his phone records he doesn't want us to see.
CDC heat map with PMC estimates
COVlD: Week of Apr 20, 2026 (PMC, US)
Levels are at their lowest in nearly 3 years, but unfortunately with a high baseline of >200,000 estimated new daily infections.
Very High = WV (1 site only)
Moderate = MS (limited data) & Guam
All others low/very low

The astronaut with gun meme, both staring at Earth in spacesuits, one pointing a gun at the back of the other's head. American astronaut: It's all just survivor bias? Ohio Space Program Assassin: Always has been.
This has come up several times lately in many different fields. It desrves the treatment.
#DontSayCovid is the real life Don't Look Up.
Waiting for an MRI in Ontario can take anywhere up to eight months and Doug Ford spent 29 MRI machines on a jet so he could be more comfy on his one-hour flight to Ottawa once a year.

Researchers warn of severe long-term damage to the brain after Covid following new study
January study of essential workers (with blood samples before & after COVID infection) found those with long-term neurological symptoms had higher phosphorylated tau—a protein linked to early brain degeneration
Absolutely incredible.
NASA Astronaut Reid Wiseman, who commanded Artemis II, took this footage from the far side of the Moon with his iPhone.
Watch with sound on.
Ya but #DontSayCovid
Personally I would consider whether repeated and constant exposure to a disease known to cause brain damage and cognitive/concentration difficulties might be, you know, doing those things.
Oooh acars drama is here. Awesome!
Risk assessment of cardiac arrhythmias in the early post-COVID-19 period in non-hospitalized patients—long-term data from the PoLoCOV-CVD study 🚨I’ve warned you already many times: Mild COVID = HEART RISK! ➡️Interesting Polish study analysed 893 non-hospitalized adults with no prior cardiovascular disease (CVD) who had confirmed COVID-19 and were evaluated ~12 weeks post-infection via 12-lead ECG and 24-hour Holter monitoring,

The desperate campaign to push AI down our throats is just what Nestlé did with baby formula, or Monsanto with patended seeds.
Manufactured Intermediation—inserting a corporate tollbooth into a process that used to be self-sustaining, using a low initial barrier to entry to destroy the alternative.
More Vintage Computing museums should rent out cloud access to their rare hardware.
SDF (Super Dimension Fortress) does it, and it’s freaking awesome.
I’m literally logged into a Sun SPARCstation…anyone can do this for free, right now. Just SSH in.
I want to find new ways to say this because people look baffled when I try to explain it—but I really can’t put it any better. Covid is not over. Covid isn’t in the past tense. Right now is relatively good in very recent terms, but actually worse than what people retrospectively call “during covid.”
Annotated graph of the 12 waves (U.S.)
COVID-19 persists in 2026.
We are in a relative "lull" following a 12th wave, but at a baseline of 200-300K estimated new daily infections.
Transmission was lower in the era many refer to as #DuringCOVID, when multi-layered mitigation was used instead of denial.

A really important critique of the flawed @AnnalsofIM masks vs respirators trial. Good on

Canada's Covid strategy has been to not talk about Covid and vaguely encourage people to suffer quietly.
I went to New Orleans with my parents as a kid and still remember dinner at Antoines, the amazing dining, the jazz bars, and the French Quarter.
Its a special memory.
Oooh.
"Airborne aware".
Stealing that, ty!
My lipids are increasing just reading this.
Every single person standing up for science and refusing to deny the current reality of Covid is a much needed and appreciated pillar of society.

The main interface for the game Fallout. The PC is currently in a cave; a two-headed cow corpse is visible screen left. Top center is dominated by the Pipboy view. Left are the player's current inventory (a rifle and two stacks of ammunition); top center is the PC's appearance, a grey green army man; middle is the current armor, some football-pad-looking leather armor; bottom shows the left hand is empty, and the right hand has a grey pistol. Top right are the character's key stats (ST 15, DX 17, IQ 11, HT 14, PD 2, DR 7, Move 7, Dodge 7), attack stats (Magnum, 3d bullet), Total Weight 10, Points 138, and Unspent Points -38. Bottom left is a log showing everything the player has looked at, an inventory button, the menu button, HP 14, FP 15, the left hand button showing Punch/Kickthe right hand button showing a Magnum, three toggles for action control, a Pip-Boy button, a Character Sheet button, a button for movement, and a mollyguard that would show combat options.

4.0 earthquake reported NW of Ottawa today (minor). There is a common belief that an increase of 1 on the Richter scale means a 10x stronger earthquake. The 1935 paper by Richter was a little off. We now know 1 higher on the scale actually equates to about 32x more energy released.
