THE THOUSAND MADLEENS WILL DEPART FROM MARSEILLE ON APRIL 4 TO REACH THE INTERNATIONAL MEETING POINT Since 2008, the Freedom Flotilla Coalition and other movements have been striving to break the illegal siege imposed by Israel on Gaza and to stand alongside Palestinians in their struggle for the right to self-determination. When we decided to launch a new wave of flotillas, our intention was never to replicate the last mission in September. As international activists in the Palestine solidarity movement, we have a responsibility not only to demonstrate determination to break the siege, but also to realistically assess our impact, as our primary goal has always been to organize direct action that is strategically relevant to the Palestinian struggle and the fight against fascism. We are a flotilla and an initiative that has always understood the risks inherent in sailing to Gaza to break the Israeli siege. Furthermore, we believe it is imperative that our decisions remain strategic and be made with our eyes fixed on Palestine. .../...
The geopolitical situation has changed dramatically over the past few months. We are heading toward an increasingly militarized zone, which significantly increases the risks for participants and makes our goal of breaking the siege more difficult to achieve in the current context. While many members of the movement are willing to take this risk, it must only be taken at the most strategically opportune moment. The flotillas were never intended as an isolated strategy; we are part of a vast network of direct action against the oppression of peoples around the world. As one of the few direct-action movements in support of Palestine, visible on every continent, we have a responsibility to use the resources at our disposal to maximize our impact. As such, we have decided to thoroughly reassess our current strategy and to continue doing so, while consulting with the Palestinian community. We are maintaining the departure from Marseille as the international meeting point on April 4 to continue planning and prepare for an escalation, as we remain determined to fight against the Zionist entity and all other colonial and fascist forces Our movement must not be stopped by fascist forces Our determination remains unshakeable. Nous sommes une flottille et une initiative qui a toujours compris les risques inhérents a la navigation vers Gaza pour briser le siege israélien. La situation géopolitique a radicalement changé au cours des derniers mois. Nous nous dirigeons vers une zone de + en + militarisée, ce qui accroit considérablement les risques pour les participant.es et rend notre objectif de briser le siege + difficile a atteindre du - dans le contexte actuel. Si de nombreux membres du mvmnt sont préts a assumer ce risque, celui-ci ne doit étre pris qu'au moment stratégique le + opportun. Les flottilles n'ont jamais été conçues comme une stratégie isolée nous faisons partie d'1 vaste rézo d'action directe contre I'oppression des peuples partout dans le monde En tant que l'1 des rares mvmnts d'action directe en faveur de la Palestine, visibles sur tous les continents, nous avons la responsabilité d'utiliser les ressources a notre disposition pour maximiser notre impact. A ce titre, nous avons décidé de réévaluer en profondeur notre stratégie actuelle et de continuer a le faire, tout en consultant la communauté palestinienne.
