My FFXIV OC, Chandal (veena viera man with short black hair), stands outside in the Leveilleur Estate balcony. Despite the nighttime, the bright warm light from inside the manor illuminates his ornate clothing and the sword he casually rests on his shoulder. --------- Haena's Crystal Braves had become a welcome presence in Old Sharlayan, although Chandal preferred menial tasks with the gleaners in Labyrinthos over representing his dear sister at one of Ameliance's parties. While Alphinuad still chafes at the reminder, Ameliance is grateful to Haena and the Braves' efforts to carry on her son's mission. Much of the bluster and pageantry does go over Chandal's head. He was not suited for diplomacy nor... impractical clothing. He found some peace outside the function, like he always did, under the moonlight. It had not been that long since he was still roaming the war-torn reaches of Othard wearing whatever could shelter him from the elements or Garlean magitek. Rather than caviar canapes and carrot pudding, he ate whatever meager portions he could afford. There was once an aging Doman man who shared with Chandal the last of his wine and rice before passing away in his sleep, peacefully resting after knowing those who murdered his wife and took his son were lying dead after meeting Chandal's blade. Chandal never could discern flavors too well, but those memories often lingered in their absence. Ameliance's words of gratitude amidst the idle chatter of Sharlayan professors. The sigh of relief from that man after gulping down his glass of plum wine; his belly hardly full yet his hunger sated. "You will become a blade to vanquish your enemies, and yet are also the man who will swing that blade against them." Meidao shizun's words returned to him once more. She had left him with a riddle. "In our pursuit, we shed our selves: lighten the load so that we may take flight in the skies. Chandal, my student, do birds fly with purpose or are simply carried by the winds?"
