In contrast, Mo-86 exhibits more modest excitations and remains nearly spherical. The study highlights the importance of three-nucleon interactions in explaining these structural differences. This discovery marks the first known example of an Island of Inversion in a proton-neutron symmetric system and offers new insight into the forces that shape atomic nuclei, opening avenues for further research on nuclear structure in symmetric isotopes.
