Today’s contribution for #FingerpostFriday a welcome sight when you’ve walked 8 miles from Whitby, yards from Robin Hood’s Bay. Up there as one of the best walks I’ve ever done. #RoadTrip2025 🥾 🎒
Driving through the Long Range Mountains in Newfoundland. Did you know? This is the northern most tip of the Appalachian Mountains in North America! #ColorADay #GreenSat #BlueSkyArtShow #TheRoad #newfoundland #cornerbrook #eastcoastkin #appalachianmountains #canada #photography #roadtrip2025
I spent a lovely few hours @wildkenhill.bsky.social this afternoon with the very knowledgeable @acorncarver.bsky.social as our group guide.Too engrossed to take photos.Really interesting to learn about returning land to nature, farming sustainably & managing habitats to benefit wildlife #RoadTrip2025
As I left the village (Lincs) earlier on this Buzzard, quite confiding, sat perched up. #RoadTrip2025 @btoengland.bsky.social @rspbengland.bsky.social
Heading home tomorrow, a lazy morning followed by an amble this afternoon. It’s not the most inspiring countryside but peaceful & dead flat. #RoadTrip2025

Initially alone in a city I found outdoors & book shops🙄In my defence there were sales on.I’ve had a lovely day with 2 good friends,we walked, talked, laughed, lunched & visited Lincoln Cathedral😮I got the last bus back to the middle of nowhere, now cosy in my cottage with a cuppa & a film #RoadTrip2025
Views across the reed bed of the Humber Bridge
The pond and wildlife garden at Ness End Farm - the trust’s regional office.
The bushes on the reserve absolutely laden with fruits
Double decker hide 🤩
Almost unbelievably entry (inc parking) @the-wildlifetrusts.bsky.social Far Ings National Nature Reserve is free! The VC is closed Mon/Tues making it very quiet🤩Such a very peaceful place.A 3 mile stroll around this afternoon.I guess the wind meant there was little about. #RoadTrip2025 🧵 1/2
Somewhere vaguely around Gransmoor, a brief stop to answer a call and a pair of Red Kites emerged from nearby trees. This one was most confiding & allowed me to work in my bird in flight photos 🦅 #RoadTrip2025

A great journey back South, picnic lunch stop & lovely couple of hours ambling around a nature reserve. Now in deepest darkest Lincs.I only booked this place last week, what a find🤩 It’s in a village at the end of the road;quiet & secluded is an understatement 🥰 #RoadTrip2025 #NooneWouldHearYourScream
Southbound I saw signs to:158 Squadron Memorial,former @royalairforce.bsky.social Lissett Airfield built 1942,the closest Bomber Command airfield to Germany.Home to 158 Squadron operating Handley Page Halifax 4-engine Bombers #LestWeForget 💐 #RoadTrip2025 🧵 1/2 www.158squadron.co.uk/memorials/li...
Sorry (not sorry) 😇 more Gannets.
Only when reviewing my photos did I see this much younger juvenile still covered in a considerable amount of down! I was focussed on the juvenile (dark coloured bird front left). #RoadTrip2025 @rspbengland.bsky.social Bempton Cliffs
I couldn’t resist the urge to return to @rspbengland.bsky.social Bempton Cliffs today, there’ll be no more suitable weather this trip 😭 I find these majestic birds so mesmerising which is of course why I returned today. #RoadTrip2025
(I’ve a few ring sightings to log too).
@btoengland.bsky.social
I had no idea there were grey seals at Flamborough Head. Imagine my delight as I rounded the cliff tops - I’ve never seen many out at sea before getting to the 2 inaccessible bays where many more were hauled up🦭🥰 Their calls echoed in a cave & filled the air. #RoadTrip2025
My legs needed a rest today so I took a drive out to Flamborough Head today. Again spectacular views. Car park price not too bad & free 🚽 🤩 Sadly the lighthouse is currently closed. I didn’t except what I got as I walked around to the end! #RoadTrip2025
I spent the afternoon @rspbengland.bsky.social Bempton Cliffs I didn’t see the Short Eared Owls but thousands of Gannets, they’re memorising to watch. I’ve only ever seen one or two before. The numbers here are just incredible.Amongst them every so often a good view of a juvenile. #RoadTrip2025
RAF Bempton est. as a radar station,(part of Chain Home Low (CHL) network) in 1949.Originally installed close to Flamborough Head Lighthouse but was too low so moved.Except for a period from 1945-1949 it served similar purposes until its final closure in April 1972. #RoadTrip2025
I drove across Fylingdales Moor, very sad to see the vast areas devastated by wildfires.I had a stroll at Filey, stunning views.A downpour upon arrival at Bridlington 🌧️ rainbow after rainbow followed.Fab air B&B,all I can hear is the sea & Chinooks.Oystercatchers on the beach #HappyDays #RoadTrip2025
Sunset was underwhelming on my final evening here in Whitby. I’ve enjoyed it & not driven the car since I arrived.🤩 Moody skies behind one of the ornate shelters along the West clifftop.

An easier day today, 5.5 miles out to Sandsend & back via Whitby Museum.
It’s a really good museum and easy to while away a couple of hours. #RoadTrip2025
As I retuned from Sandsend, walking 🥾 along the beach, the price for getting caught in a brief shower 🌧️ was seeing a double rainbow appear and disappear before my eyes. 🌈 It was a pretty special few moments. #RoadTrip2025 #Rainbow @virtualastro.bsky.social @skycalpro.com

I’m grateful to the friend who suggested this hike 🥰 Exactly 8 miles from the guesthouse to the beach in Robin Hood’s Bay. Not many folk about 🤩The scenery & views-breathtaking, the terrain-undulating 😂 I stumbled into a cafe before walking back up the 30% incline to get to the bus #RoadTrip2025
Yesterday I took a trip by bus to Saltburn-by-the-Sea (they have free toilets 🥳). I walked down to the prom via the pleasant valley gardens & was amazed by the beautiful vast expanse of beach. They have Yorkshire’s last pier, slightly quirky it opened in 1869. #RoadTrip2025
This evening’s sunset from West Pier, Whitby.

Larpool Viaduct
Caedmon's Trod
Final tally 9.7 miles including going to find dinner! 🍽️ I just made this route up and ambled around a few things in town afterwards. I opted for the path less trodden and took Caedmon's Trod up to the abbey & the famous steps down. #RoadTrip2025
There was no way this view was going to look good in broad daylight IMHO … however I’m pretty happy with this view of the Abbey and the just past full Corn moon rising. 🌙 #RoadTrip2025 #Whitby
I made it back just as the heavens opened (moon soon obscured again)!
Lewis Carroll Garden,Whitby in a very small space on a side street afford great views.Fittingly whimsical in tribute to the author of Alice in Wonderland.Somewhat controversially this view of the abbey beats the view through the whalebones that everyone else wants😂 #RoadTrip2025
Mid morning today on the ebbing tide on West Cliff beach, Whitby. #Panorama @panophotos.bsky.social

While a large number of folk were gathered in almost silent anticipation with cameras poised in vain hope of the cloud clearing to see the blood moon … very few turned round to see the beautiful sunset over Sansend. #RoadTrip2025 @virtualastro.bsky.social @skycalpro.com
