Salt and Sparks Chapter 6: Confession (Part 3) "Did you see Brook’s stories? The party’s gonna be epic!" Oh yeah, he's seen the pictures. The entire week has been filled with polls on the Laboon's Instagram account, with Brook asking the regulars if one shade of pink was better than the other, if they preferred option A or B for the paper-craft roses — Sanji had voted for B — or if it would make sense to offer flowers made out of lingerie or not. That's when Sanji stopped answering the polls altogether. OR Valentine's day party at the Laboon had seemed like a good idea to take Sanji's mind off the Marimo. Turns out it wasn't.

Parallels and Metaphors - The Floating World Between Us Fic Analysis Link (gorgeous art by @Escapecoatery): https://archiveofourown.org/works/82035081 I used several techniques for this fic, as a writing exercise, but also because I wanted the narration to echo Sanji’s poetry. (To make sure I kept it natural and zsz flavored, though, I used a few very grounded, verbalized “Oh, shit” echoing through the fic.) The Agency of the wings I used the Groggy Ring situation as a starting point for the demi experience, but I wanted mainly to address Zoro and Sanji’s issues with the other before they find their complicity. Let me prove myself! cried Sanji’s soul as his voice refused Zoro’s protection. Sanji wanted to be worthy of what he had once renounced. Let me protect you! Zoro’s soul growled as his voice pretended not to trust Sanji. Zoro wanted to be worthy of what he had once failed.
Since we talked about the themes with @escapecoatery.bsky.social, I could choose really early on what kind of literary devices would resonate with the concept ♥

Was always fascinated with the artistry of tattoos, and the agency and freedom to express yourself through your body - Took an apretinceship under Zeff in the Baratie kitchen and used his payments to get his first few (hidden) tattoos - Saved up to open his own shop with the encouragement of his friend Usopp as well as Zeff. - Has a lot more tattoos though they’re not usually seen under the suits he loves wearing. - Loves cooking and will ocassionaly help Zeff with the restaurant, as well as always offers snacks to his clients. Text underneath reads: Zoro’s flower shop was doing business as usual, until the building next door starts going through renovations to open Sanji’s tattoo shop. At a first glance, people always mistake who owns which business, which quickly starts a rivalry between the two. All the while Usopp takes interest in Zoro’s plants, and Nami in the potential of Sanji’s business.
Rivals in business (even though one business does not interfere with the other at all but its about the principle of it okay? how dare they confuse me with that prick!!)

After a moment’s thought he draws Shusui and Wado, not trusting Kitetsu to behave itself when he’s this wound up, and sees Sanji’s mouth curl at the corners in a promisingly terrifying smile. “You admitted you’re tired,” he drawls around the filter of his cigarette, voice raised just enough to carry over the space between them. “So I’ll try to go easy on you.” Zoro stretches his neck to one side then the other, until something inside cracks satisfyingly. “Don’t bother.” Sanji shrugs. He’s all long lines, elegant and poised, born with the sort of grace Zoro’s spent most of his life trying to train into himself. “If you insist, chérie,” he says. He draws the tip of his toe in a perfect semi-circle, from the deck immediately in front of him to immediately behind, like he’s marking out his space. He flicks ash from the end of his cigarette. “Come on, then. Let’s see if all that extra work’s paid off.”
