When he meets a very pretty 400 year old kitsune and his very soft tails, 5 year old Gojo declares "I am going to marry you" (oop problematic age gap). Amused and endeared, Kitsuguru says "lol okay but you'll have to beat me in a fight". Gojo is like "bet" and then spends 20 years getting strong enough to do exactly that.
‘I wasn’t expecting to catch a little kit today.’ His rescuer’s voice had all the strange power of sunshine on a winter’s day. It was far away yet it carried over the whip of the wind. It was warm like the hug Satoru remembered when he was sad. Suspended over the river by his ankle, the hem of his wet kosode slipped up his body until he could see nothing but the furious rapids rushing below and a pair of red zori on the riverbank. He was flailing like a fish on a wire, yet he was not frightened. ‘Why did you walk into the water if you cannot swim?’ Blinking snowmelt from his eyes, Satoru discovered he could not remember. ‘I don’t know,’ he said. The stranger let out a curious laugh, high and loud and fast. In one swift movement, he set Satoru down on the riverbank. With his feet on solid ground, Satoru found that he felt more dizzy than he had when he was upside down, for when the stranger crouched in front of him, gathering his sumptuous robes around his knees, Satoru saw that he had a smile like a fox, ears like a fox, and a tail like a fox, too. Five of them, in fact. ‘Where is your mother, little kit?’ Following the motion of them as they swished to and fro, Satoru was entranced. They were the same colour as his ears, which were the same colour as his hair, spilling like ink over his shoulders. The silky strands shone silver where they caught the light, even in the gloom before dusk.
‘I have no mother,’ said Satoru, swaying where he stood. ‘Then where is your father?’ ‘He is winning a war.’ ‘How do you know he is winning?’ Even in a daze, the answer came to Satoru like the well-practised mantra it was. ‘The Gojō clan is strong.’ If the stranger’s hair carried the moon and the stars, then his eyes held all the sun’s warmth when he smiled at Satoru then. Staring into that golden gaze, Satoru realised the stranger wasn’t a stranger at all. This fox was familiar. This fox was a friend. ‘And what about you, little kit?’ he asked, something clever to the gleam of his eye and the lift of his lips. ‘Are you strong?’ Only moments ago, the fox had fished him out of a river he surely would have died in, but Satoru lifted his chin all the same. This, he knew for certain. ‘Very,’ he said, clenching his fists at his sides. ‘And one day, I will become the strongest of all.’ The fox threw his head back on that same strange laugh, but Satoru did not feel the shame of mockery. ‘Not if you drown before you grow to become a man,’ said the fox. ‘Learn to swim, little kit.’
LRP got me in my feels. samurai x kitsune is my secret guilty pleasure. gojo *is* a modern day samurai in canon to me, but here's an old-ish wip set in the late sengoku era 🦊 #jjk #satosugu
