Especially with the lengths he gone through to try to stop us. MARIA: I get that! I'm more surprised that you're not doing this. PANEL 2 SAGE: I rather use my capabilities for defensive measures as well as finding father and Shadow. Besides, generative art is not my thing. PANEL 3 MARIA: Got it! Granted I am a bit rusty at drawing, after being dead for decades and all. Any references I can use for this? PANEL 4: Sage brings up the egg emblem Robotnik uses as reference. SAGE: I do have the iconography that father uses on his projects. Perhaps the new piece can resemble it. PANEL 5 MARIA: Is...is that his ear hair...? SAGE: Mustache, actually. Likely the reason critics call father, "Baldy McNosehair". PANEL 6 MARIA: *Snerk* ...McNosehair. Hah! SAGE: MARIA. PANEL 7 MARIA: (Off-screen) Sorry! Sorry. It is a funny name, you gotta admit. Aaaand... PANEL 8: Maria finishes the drawing, a silhouette of Sage's head with an S drawing on the top left corner. MARIA: (Off-screen) DONE! So what do you think? PANEL 9 SAGE: Interesting...any reason for the altercations to my hair? MARIA: Just a simple style choice! Making that swirl in your hair into a "S", for Sage! Kinda like how my hair bangs resemble the first initial to my name! A bubble appears next to Maria, with a chibi Maria next to "ARIA!", with her hair bangs being the M.
PANEL 1 SAGE: That does bring up a good point. I'm noticing something missing in here... MARIA: (With big smile) Well just say what it is and I'll add it in a jiffy! PANEL 2 SAGE: (Off-screen) Where's you? Maria's smile fades away. PANEL 3 MARIA: Me!? Wait, you wanted me to be in here too? SAGE: Well this is our journey, so its only fair that we would be treated as equals here. PANEL 4 MARIA: EQUALS!? I'm sorry but who's the one with all the cyber powers? The encyclopedia database? The lasers that ripped that robot into shreds!? That's all you! PANEL 5 MARIA: I'm just a dead gal with a bleeding heart. I don't think I'll ever be in the same league as you. It wouldn't be far of me to take up the spotlight like that. You deserve it more! PANEL 6 SAGE: (Off-screen) You are wrong. PANEL 7 MARIA: What do you mean, Sage? SAGE: You are just wrong. PANEL 8 SAGE: I've read your reports, your essays, your diary entrees. I've even read the praise Gerald gave you in his journal. I've seen what you're capable of, Maria. You were destined for greatness. To bring in so much hope into the world. Something that no one from G.U.N. would've truly realize. And I'm not going to let you sacrifice yourself again, especially not for me! PANEL 9: Drawing of Maria dying as she sends Shadow to Earth from the ARK. SAGE: (Offscreen) It shouldn't have to be this way. Why do we find ourselves in these life or death situations? Is it just fate to forward other's stories like this? Just a cruel joke to diminish our purpose? PANEL 10: Drawing of the end of Sonic Frontiers with Eggman watching Sage's remains fall SAGE: (Off-screen) Its not like I was never in this situation before, I made the same calculations. The same decisions. The same result. It stings all the same, especially knowing what I know now. Though there is one difference between the two of us. Father was able to resurrect me with everything intact. My current build duplicated and saved, in case I perish again...
PANEL 1: Sage floats down to the ground, depressed SAGE: You on the other hand, don't have the same opportunity. I didn't have the same amount of expertise that father had when I tried to revive you. And if you met the same fate, attempts to bring you back again would raise further complications... PANEL 2-3: Maria feels bad after Sage vents her anxieties. SAGE: (Off-screen) I just don't want ot rob you of your true potential...again... PANEL 4: Sage slumps over as Maria ponders about how to handle the response. PANEL 5: Maria walks up to Sage. PANEL 6: Maria gives Sage the sketchbook, containing the updated drawing, as Sage starts to feel better. MARIA: Here, I took your comments to heart. PANEL 7 MARIA: Its just...being gone for so long does a lot to one's self esteem. Even with such a short life I had. If I had never been gunned down, my days would still be numbered due to my illness. It made it hard to think if I even had a future, you know? Or any lasting impact outside of an expiration date. PANEL 8 MARIA: You're the first person outside of the ARK that held me in such a high regard, Sage. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact. PANEL 9 MARIA: For now on, we'll have each other's backs. No matter who we're up against, they'll regret messing with us! SAGE: Thanks, Maria. PANEL 10: Sage scans the drawing on the pad and projects it onto a digital screen. PANEL 11 SAGE: That should be good enough. MARIA: Yeah! That should teach Infinite to not mess with the Sisters Robotnik! SAGE: Technically if you never died, you would've been my aunt. MARIA: The points still stands, silly! We're family! PANEL 12: An emblem resembling the logo of Sonic & Knuckles but with Sage and Maria takes up the digital screen as the two of them walk away. SAGE: ...so, you really did style your hair to resemble the letter "M"? MARIA: Hey, it helped Shadow lean to spell. This looking good was an added bonus!
