Been stewing over this all day, I just can't help myself. Ronnie O'Sullivan just set a new high run snooker break record of 153. 147 is max points but an unusual situation occurred where a "free ball" was declared which allowed Ronnie to pocket an extra red-black pair. He pocketed two pinks instead of black to score 6 points over the max - a 153. Congratulations, Ronnie! It's phenomenal to clear the table given your one chance during that rare opportunity. He opened the rack well and made difficult shots that many would falter on. Snooker is similar to Straight Pool so the strategy is appreciated. But I have to say this: he still pocketed only 38 balls. Yes, yes, I know the table is bigger, blah, blah, blah. But in Straight Pool a 38 ball run is nothing special at all. Two people have run over eight HUNDRED balls in a row of Straight Pool. One of those is a world record. IMO, that snooker 153 is nowhere near as significant as those 800s. Ok, there, I said it.
Is an 800 run in straight pool more impressive than a 153 break in snooker?
