In response, Iranians are forming human chains around power plants and bridges, demanding an end to this madness. Trump also said “The entire country could be taken out,” threatening to bomb Iran “back to the Stone Age.” These sound like threats to drop nuclear weapons on Iran, which could not only destroy the country of 90 million people, but endanger others around the world— including Americans—with retaliatory nuclear responses. The 25th Amendment is an important tool in the U.S. Constitution for our democracy and our survival: It’s a mechanism to remove presidents when they are clearly unfit for the position. This is how it works: The Vice President and a majority of the Cabinet or a body designated by Congress must declare in writing that the President is unable to perform their duties, immediately transferring powers to the Vice President. In the past few days, even right-wing commentators and Republicans who’ve previously served in Congress and in Trump’s administration have called to invoke it.
