International Climate Finance Goals: Where Are We, Where Do We Need to Be, and How Do We Get There? Nearly a year since governments agreed on a set of new international climate finance goals, here’s an assessment of progress and what COP30 needs to deliver to keep on track.

The new #adaptationfinance goal complements the international climate finance goals (NCQG) agreed at COP29 last year.

Because it was set within the framework of the #NCQG, developed countries take the lead, all #MDB outflows can count, and other countries are encouraged to contribute voluntarily.

#Germany as a leading donor to the #AdaptationFund should be immediately following the #COP30 create the impetus for nature-based solutions #NBS in the UN climate financing framework #NCQG. This not only needs more funding, but a #ParadigmChange towards NBS-climate policies.

👉Adaptation finance remains a sticking point

Much of COP30’s credibility now hinges on reassuring vulnerable countries that implementation will be properly supported.

The Mutirão Decision draft lays out several options: developed countries must now indicate what is realistic under the #NCQG.

7/14. 😡However, the EU, EIG, UK, Canada and Australia, have pushed to remove 🚫 the reference to paragraph 16 and instead recall the whole #NCQG.

6/14. 🚫Recalling the whole #NCQG is not as helpful pointing to this specific paragraph which clearly calls on rich 🤑polluting countries 🏭 to #PayUp4LossAndDamage. ✊ 🗣️For the G77 and China, they have made it crystal clear in previous negotiations on the FRLD guidance that this is a top priority. 🎯
